    Going for the Trifecta
    Going for the Trifecta!

    I was talking to someone about a year ago, and he brought up horse racing. I know almost nothing about it, but he was talking about how he would just bet on the Trifecta.
    He would first pick the 3 horses he believes are the best to place. Then he will make 6 Trifecta bets with those 3 horses.

    So:
    1) 1st-a 2-c 3-b
    2) 1st-a 2-b 3-c
    3) 1st-b 2-a 3-c
    4) 1st-b 2-c 3-a
    5) 1st-c 2-b 3-a
    6) 1st-c 2-a 3-b

    so he would make 6 small bets to get 1 huge win.

    your guys thoughts?
    is there a 'name' to this kind of betting?

    Called a 3 horse trifecta box. Box means you have all possible combinations covered.

    3 horses = 6 combos
    4 horses = 24 combos
    5 horses = 60 combos
    6 horses = 120 combos

        Is there a trifecta calculator on this site?

        Also what are your thoughts on this kind of betting style?

          I rarely do boxes. If I do then I will box 4 for $48(or $24 if the bet is a $1 bet). I prefer tri wheels in which I put 1 horse on top, maybe 2-3 in second, and all in 3rd. I cannot tell you how many times I have left out a horse or 2 in 3rd and they come in. Now I do all and ride with it.

            In a wide open race I like to box , if I really like one or 2 horses I will do a Tri wheel bet.

            example

            1/ 2345/2345 = 12 bucks

            3= $6
            4= $12
            5= $20
            6= $30
