A three month meeting begins Wednesday. Here's some angles I'll be looking for.
1. Track profile. As one hrtv host said: "Tactful speed is of no use at Santa Anita especially in the longer races". The Proride surface at Santa Anita favored horses with the quickness turn of foot over two furlongs. The cushion track at Hollywood is fairer to speed horses. On this surface I can use speed and pace factors in my handicapping.
2. Home Field. Horses stabled or/and working out in the mornings have an advantage especially early in the meet.
3. Musical Jockeys. There have been several agent changes in the past month. Rosario, Martin Garcia and T. Baze all have new agents. I'll be looking for some new and hot trainer jockey combinations at this new meet.
4. Freaky Fridays. I plan to avoid wagering on Friday's night racing. In the past the results have seemed strange due to the fact the horses aren't used to racing at night in Southern California.
G.L. to all SBR'ers at the track of the lakes and flowers this season.
