Good deal Pigpen. Hope you have a great meet.
I’ve never followed Oaklawn but I have noticed that there are days when the far outside seems to dominate. It’s hard for the top three finishers in a distance race to finish 11-12-9 for instance.
That points to the track maintenance unless it is random and I would suggest keeping a log of that when or if it appears.
Not just for taking a swing on that day with the outside but logging the dates and following up on inside horses that unexpectedly did not fire that day.
Just something to keep an eye on.

I cannot recall watching a race, losing and thinking the 10,11,12 post got me beat. If the horse has the ability to win, that post will not be the reason it does not in all probability.

That race this time of year is more about breeding, trainers angles, and trips than anything else I think. Typically won by horses on or near the lead unless it is a crazy early pace. Usually real difficult for a baby to deal with closing into all the dirt spray, getting a trip and dealing with crowd noise late. It is much more challenging for a real young unseasoned horse to have to deal with all those different things.Originally posted by Pigpen
They can win, but usually they are smarter than the average horse. And with no knowledge of that, it makes it real tough. Maybe a play at a real nice price so you get value in what you are betting into.
