Preakness Stakes (G1) morning-line favorite Muth has been declared out of Saturday's race after spiking a temperature after arriving at Pimlico late Tuesday night.

3 wins and making career start 6 today.. broke bad from the rail in start 2 ..in his last had the 12 post in the wood memorial which contributed to his extremely wide trip..wood was a very fast race and his adjusted time factoring lengths behind was actually faster than what he ran winning the withers 2 back (same track) ..irad has many mounts on the day so wouldn't put too much on him being the rider for the 1st time though certainly a plus having him aboard ..trainer not a national level guy which will enhance the price

think there's potential for a reasonable pace .. some horses who haven't shown speed recently might today..referring to MD and JS..important for UH being he's an off the pace type


believe he could take another step forward and he's certainly in the ballpark already.. if it happens (looks likely) he's won on off tracks both times he ran on them

besides mine was considering #7 just steel (15-1) always willing to forgive the derby and he really only competed for 6f anyway..arkansas derby nice effort and very wide both turns in the race before ..prior 2 races solid 2nd's (took the 4 race ark prep path)..in a small 7 horse field could see a bounce back effort..much better pilot this time ..just some food for thought if others are considering him ..UH still my pick

Thanks EZ; I had Mystik Dan; but I also had Fierceness cuz those were the only two that cracked the 100 Beyer.

Gonna have to root for Mystik Dan for his quest for immortality!! Think he has a good shot especially the weather may be helping him too. With Muth out, have to think that Imagination will try to control the pace as much as he can. I kinda can see Just Steel going early also. Mystik Dan will probably be sitting off of them and Tuscan Gold and Seize the Grey. If Mystik Dan is to win The Preakness, I think he has to take over once turning for home. Seize the Grey and Imagination will fight for 2nd and 3rd. I like Seize the Grey because being son of Arrogate should like the mud too and I think he is an improving colt who I think will out finish Imagination cuz I’m not really sure if Imagination can go that far.

A lot of professionals are on Catching Freedom but I don’t think the pace will be fast which will comprise his chances. That how I see the race. GL Ez and everyone playing. Let’s go Mystik Dan!!

The Preakness Stakes is linked in a two-day double to the weekend's major event for 3-year-old fillies, the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes on Friday evening. The race was won by Gun Song, who returned $6.60 as the post-time favorite.

The will-pay for the double, combining the two favorites with Gun Song and Mystik Dan, was listed as $35.20 on a $2 wager shortly after the Black-Eyed Susan was made official. There was $970,357 in the pool.

The other projected will-pays on the double, in payout order, were $30 with Gun Song combined with Tuscan Gold; $30.60 with Catching Freedom; $34.20 with Imagination; $98 with Just Steel; $114.40 with Seize the Grey; $204.60 with Uncle Heavy; and $708.40 with Mugatu.


Looks like a lot money is in the 2- Uncle Heavy currently at 7-1. He may get a piece in the super but I just don’t see how he can win.
