I've been meaning to respond to this for a week !
When I saw the title, I said to myself, OMG, could he be talking about the starting gate crew?
You were and you are so right. When I watched the break usually with binoculars unless it was right in front of me, when I heard/saw that, it would make me sick if it was my horse. And, if they sprung the latch and it was my horse, all the air went out of me. Ugh, you are right. What a sick feeling that is.
