just like to say after recommending only win bets on 2 good price horse (R8).. since place is split amongst the top 3 payouts are pretty unexciting for single digit horses.. seems you typically get around 25-33% of the win price on them.. the other side of course is you get paid down to 3rd place.. over the long haul I feel this balances out but admittedly kind of disappointing to get $5.20 back on an $18 horse finishing 2nd (fictitious) .. hurts even more when you lose by a nose/head or neck
