it's a cyclical thing.. just because you have a bad day doesn't mean you did a bad job handicapping.. I look for races I feel I have some understanding of and hopefully get a little lucky with a healthy horse who gets a good trip at the right price.. figuring out who the most likely winner is of any particular race is the wrong approach and will affect your bottom line negatively over the long haul..the biggest mistake I make is missing things that I may have spotted if I looked at it a little more carefully..most of the time I'm ok with my decision and it just didn't happen

As far as the most likely winner I think you are referring to the odds. You can not win long term by taking odds on horses a majority of the time. But if you identify a horse that you think is sure fire winner that is when I think one needs to step it up.

i view it more or less as picking a good sample..my selections wind up across the odds spectrum which I think is a good thing..I know you mean "sure fire good thing" as a horse you really like..i've seen the most
complete good things go down in flames and we all know that happens more than on occasion
