    Show betting
often not in line with the win pool

3rd race at Woodbine today, I bet the #1 WPS. Its price wound up being 15/1, but the show didn't pay much.

    Race 3

    4 Clarkston Hope Da Silva E R $3.10 $2.20 $2.20
    8 No Soup for You Contreras L - $3.40 $2.70
    1 My Bid / Synergist Morrison K / Jesse M. Campbell - - $3.70

There is one bet you never make in horse racing, and that is show bets.

Show bets are great but like everything in gambling, it's situational. In a wide open race with no clear favorite they pay well. Also, if heavy a favorite(s) does not come in, as str referenced, you should be good to go. The show prices were really good at Saratoga this year.

I don't always bet the ponies, but when I do, I stagger my bets. After doing my capping, I bet one horse.

$5 to win, $7 to place and $12 to show. So long as show money isn't $2.10, I'm in the money. (if the horse places)

it also looks like the one horse was coupled ...look at the pool also lets say the 15-1 could be a speed horse they might feel he cant win but hang on for third.......see how much the horse you has to show on him and as str said if the 1/2 shot is a race...i think its almost 80% he will be in top 3 so to me thats a race ..you stay away from.....i believe you can make money playing to show.....but not betting 1-1 remember low risk equals low reward......but i would take 4.00 and above all day even 3.60 so dont get involved in the odds ...look at the pool show pool

If you can find a vulnerable fave, it can be decent and its fun if you just want some action.

I do check out bridgejumping situations tho if I catch wind of them. At another forum, we maintain a thread on that one topic.
