Race One False Fav
This is what is great about Saratoga, the first race is a 9.5 furlong turf race with a full field. 10 CHEYENNE NATION is going to get a shot here, second start since the layoff and the change of trainer. The pace should set up nicely for the 10 here and Rosie should be able to come from just off the lead and be in the mix down the stretch. The morning line favorite 14 CARY STREET will be making their first run on the turf and is moving up in class a bit here, just don’t see it.
Race Two Trn/Jck
The 8 YANKEE FOURTUNE is coming straight off being claimed and moves into our Trn/Jck angle at a morning line of 6/1 going for the third start since a layoff and has some of the best turf numbers in the race. AE SOVEREIGN DEFAULT looks to be the one to beat here if he runs, but it doesn’t look like they are going to get the chance. Coming off a decent run in 4th his last out, drop in class should help this horse be near the top at the wire.
Race Three
A nice short 5.5f sprint here to open the dirt track full of 2 year olds in New York. This one is pretty simple, which ever horse Pletcher runs between the 1 STOPCHARGINGMARIA and 1A OUR AMAZING ROSE will be ridiculously overbet, and while they will surely deserve the money, there will be no real value in this race.
Race Four
Back to the turf and taking a shot with the 6 MYSTIC CITY at 12/1. Coming off a great win on the all weather track at Presque Isle Downs in June and has the history on turf here at Saratoga to take this one down. May need a good trip to take this from the 5 SHAKEIRA who will be coming on strong a the end. Value is here and may pay off a nice price in the 6.
Race Five
More two year olds. The 7 IRISH SWEEPSTAKES is coming off a nice 5f second at Belmont a few weeks ago and has been working out well for trainer Mark Hennig. Might not get a decent price here. The 5 I’M GONNA FLIP is an interesting look here, already has one race (if you want to call it that) under the cap, a tough loss by 14 lengths at Belmont in the same race that IRISH SWEEPSTAKES took second. Adds Lasix today and was well bet in debut. Might surprise some folks and might get a price in this one as well.
Race Six
9 NECK OF THE MOON is the morning line favorite and for a good reason. Won her only race by an impressive 4 lengths and didn’t seem to be trying her hardest. The only problem is that one race came last August at Saratoga. Lots of questions marks here, but the same run should win this race easily as well. Another horse coming off a win the 3 SUBTLE[/highlight] may get the rail and set the pace up front here with a good break. Hasn’t run since May at Monmouth and doesn’t have a history of coming off layoffs well, but may get the trip to take this one down.
Race Seven
Taking another long shot here in race 7, the 9 SAYLER’S CREEK (20/1) is coming off a trainer change, moving up the coast from Gulfstream Park and really hasn’t put up numbers that seem to make this a real possibility. All that being said, new trainer adds blinkers for the first time and this horse may just get a great pace to run at behind what could set up to be some crazy early pace in this 7f event. At the very least look for the 9 to be flying up the back stretch and filling in the back end of exotics with a nice price, best case scenario they use this drop in distance and pull out a nice win here. 2 TENANGO drops in class and will be the favorite who will likely also be coming from off the pace here in this one as well.
Race Eight
Another race where the price may come in higher than expected. Both the 2 HELLO LOVER and the 6 WILLYCONKER look intriguing and are the two highest prices on the morning line at 15/1 and 20/1 respectively. HELLO LOVER is coming off two nice races winning at a mile and 1/16, followed by a quality third at 7f. This will be the third start off the layoff and may be ready to improve on a nice number his last time out. The 6 WILLYCONKER moves off the turf, moves across the country from Santa Anita and Hollywood Park and moves up in class. But something about the way this horse finished his last couple of races makes me want to keep an eye on this one.
Race Nine
GIII stakes race for two year olds. God I love this time of the year! The 4 BRAZEN PERSUASION should be the one to beat here. Won her last race easily after getting a tough trip and giving up some ground, Rosie still managed to take this horse and win by almost 5 lengths. The beauty of playing 2 year olds is that the money could end up just about anywhere and prices could bounce around quite a bit in this race.
Race Ten Trn/Jck False Fav
7 HUDSON MIRACLE is coming off a quality 2nd place at Belmont in his last race and has the turf history to win this one going away. The pace should set up nicely for the winner to come off the lead and I expect HUDSON MIRACLE to be coming on the strongest down the stretch. Coming off a two month layoff may hurt this horse, but the Trn/Jck button lights up and has proven to be a good angle on these inner turf races from last year.
