yes, you have a chance to do it the right way. pure and simple select 1 horse who isn't the favorite and bet (let's use 10.00 a race for a base) 5.00 to win and 5.00 worth of exacta's with that horse boxing maybe 1 with him and using your win horse on top of the boxed horse again and 2 others. if you get ahead simply advance to 12.00 a race or 14.00 or more if you build the bankroll properly. don't forget the win money and don't get carried away with the exotics.

As a relative newbie to horses myself, I have to disagree with this part. I say keep the bets the same. Raising the stakes will only expedite the fall that is sure to follow. At least for myself, a good run will only lead to a false sense of security and confidence.

I like playing exactas, doubles and 50 cent pick 3s, which you can do pretty cheap and play around to figure things out.

Conditional pick 3s are a cheap way to take some shots.

Or find a nice longshot and play him to Place, you would be surprised by how much he will pay and he can finish first or second.

Go with win bets at first until you start to get the hang of it, then try place bets on longer odds per DDT. If you are too impatient and are dying for a big score, try 1 exacta box a day as your thrill bet and keep it cheap. Important to figure out the basics of this sport in the beginning. Hell even once that is established it is still very difficult.
