#638There's a solid team when they wanna be. Top 5 goalie in Hiller, solid forwards, okay D. Their biggest weakness is usually their discipline as they've been in the top 5 teams in penalty minutes the last 3 years.Originally posted by 815SoxI am telling ya, I love the Ducks. leetreaperBARRELED IN @ SBR!- 10-23-10

 #660From the ESPN insider:

 Top 10 goalies:

 1. Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers
 60 GP, .917 save percentage, 17.9 GVT

In terms of durability and consistently elite play, Lundqvist may be the NHL's current gold standard in the net. With five straight seasons of 68 or more starts and a career save percentage of .918, the Swedish All-Star can be counted on to carry his team each season, which is why he is projected to be at the top of the league in goaltender GVT.

Hopes are high this season on Broadway that a retooled Rangers roster and continued stellar play from King Henrik should put the Blueshirts in contention to be the Atlantic Division's top team.

 2. Carey Price, Montreal Canadiens
 62 GP, .915 save percentage, 14.7 GVT

Few young goalies have faced as much pressure as Price did last season in Montreal when he was forced into the starting role to replace a departed playoff hero (Jaroslav Halak). Fewer have dealt with those high expectations as effectively as the 24-year-old British Columbia native who led the league in wins and posted an impressive .923 save percentage during a season that signaled his emergence among the game's elite.

Price continued his outstanding play in the postseason -- a time of year when he previously had struggled -- helping the Habs push the eventual Cup-champion Bruins all the way to overtime in Game 7 of their first-round series.

 3. Ryan Miller, Buffalo Sabres
 55 GP, .916 save percentage, 13.7 GVT

With a retooled roster in front of Miller, look for a bounce-back season from him. That is not to say that his 2010-11 campaign was mediocre by any means (.916 save percentage, 11.7 GVT), but it fell short of the high standard set during his '09-10 Vezina-winning season and ended in very disappointing fashion with the American netminder getting pulled in the Sabres' Game 7 loss in the first round.

Miller's performance didn't drop by much at even strength compared to 2010 (.928 to .924), but it fell off substantially on special teams (.929 to .885).

 4. Pekka Rinne, Nashville Predators
 56 GP, .914 save percentage, 13.5 GVT

A Vezina-nominated season and a dominant playoff series against the Vancouver Canucks put Rinne in the national spotlight. The fourth-year starter from Finland has a rare combination of size (6-foot-5) and athleticism and looks poised for another strong season with the defensively responsible Predators.

Rinne is particularly difficult to beat in one-on-one situations; his .777 shootout save percentage ranks first in the league since the lockout among goalies with at least 100 attempts against.

 5. Cam Ward, Carolina Hurricanes
 60 GP, .915 save percentage, 13.4 GVT

In his six-year NHL career, Ward has never seen his save percentage drop from the season before. If he can continue that pattern and improve upon last season's impressive .923 save percentage mark, he likely will find himself in Vezina contention.

Ward's strong numbers came despite leading the league in games played, minutes, shots against and saves.

 [+] Enlarge
 Michael Ivins/US Presswire
With Tim Thomas in net, there was a lot of rejoicing in Boston last season as the B's won the Cup.
 6. Tim Thomas, Boston Bruins
 55 GP, .915 save percentage, 13.3 GVT

It would be hard for Thomas to improve on his 2010-11 season, when he set a save percentage record, dominated in both the regular season and the playoffs and won pretty much everything there is to win other than a Hart Trophy.

The only time when Thomas was less than outstanding was in shootouts, when his record was 1-5 with nine goals against on 19 attempts. The question now is how much the 37-year-old, two-time Vezina winner has left in the tank. Expect his play to come back to Earth somewhat, although he will remain one of the best in the game.

 7. Jonas Hiller, Anaheim Ducks
 46 GP, .917 save percentage, 13.0 GVT

Hiller is, by all accounts, over the vertigo problems that plagued him last season. If so, it shouldn't take the Swiss goaltender very long to rediscover the form that has allowed him to carve out a very promising NHL career to date (.921 career save percentage).

It's also terrific news for the Ducks, a team that was forced to rely heavily on its goaltending as a result of being outshot by an average of almost four shots per game last season and was quickly sent packing in the first round of the playoffs in Hiller's absence.

 8. Ilya Bryzgalov, Philadelphia Flyers
 54 GP, .914 save percentage, 12.3 GVT

Moving from the team with the league's lowest home attendance (Phoenix Coyotes) to playing in front of a rabid fan base in Philadelphia will be a major change for Bryzgalov. His play in the desert earned him a pile of owner Ed Snider's money and a whopping nine-year commitment from the Flyers.

If Philly reaches the postseason, Bryzgalov will be the 25th netminder to guard the crease for the Flyers in the playoffs since their last Cup win in 1975. He will be keen to avoid the fate of the 24 masked men who preceded him in Philadelphia's notorious "goalie graveyard."

 9. Tomas Vokoun, Washington Capitals
 48 GP, .916 save percentage, 12.1 GVT

Many hockey fans are eager to see what Vokoun can accomplish this season, having finally escaped the mediocrity in Florida to join a contending team in Washington. Vokoun's regular-season numbers have been consistently great (.919 save percentage or better for the past six seasons), although his postseason track record is sparse.

The Caps' management is betting that the Czech veteran not only will bring his usual high level of play from October to March but also will be the missing link to help solve the team's recent postseason woes.

 10. Jimmy Howard, Detroit Red Wings
 50 GP, .913 save percentage, 10.6 GVT

Howard's numbers last season were much better on the road (19-5-2, 2.67 GAA, .916 save pct.) than at home (18-12-3, 2.88, .902). The third-year starter suffered a sophomore slump that raised his GAA by a half-goal per game compared to his solid rookie season in 2009-10, despite facing a similar level of shots against.

Detroit fans will hope for an improved level of performance, especially at Joe Louis Arena. Luckily for them, VUKOTA projects that Howard will return to form this season.

 Enjoy!Comment

anyways, i like your toronto pick but the others i am not so sure about. tampa has been bad in the early season and florida has actually played well. panthers are also pretty good against tb.

san jose really needs to wake up but anaheims offense can throw down some good numbers on the sharks. both teams have been bad it is just a toss-up between whose stars/pp show up.Comment

#664It really is subjective figuring out who the top goalies are honestly. All depends on the team playing in front of them, the system they play etc.

IMO Hiller is one of the most underrated goalies in the league. He makes so many big saves that most goalies let in and does a hell of a job with a shotty D core in front of him in Anaheim.

Anyways GL tonight all Comment Comment
