That is disgusting behavior. Racism is still well alive in hockey. Makes you wonder what some of the players say to these guys...

yeah i dont like it either. hockey is built on diversity. its gotta be the #1 sport that represents the most countries/nationalities/ethnicities compared to any other. suprised it happened in canada too (this game was actually played in london, ontario). thought they had a bit more respect than in the U.S.

i made that statement because hockey is canadas national pasttime so i thought between them and here in the u.s. that they would be more respectful to a black hockey player. maybe i'm wrong, and maybe both countries have the same tolerance/intolerance levels

I would agree with you to the extent that I think the standard of conduct around the world has sunk to new lows. That said, in both the US and Canada I think the governments have gone way overboard in the prosecution of perceived slights at the same time as people like you and I are disappointed that someone would toss trash of any sort onto the rink for any reason. It interrupts the game for everyone.
