Great job last night, I kept it simple myself, over Bruins/Islanders and Bruins over 3, easy and early covers, which is nice. Going with the same thing tonight with the Bruins along with Buff on the PL.

Good on ya dog. I have a hard time keeping it simple, especially when I am feeling "hot". The Sharks missed the empty net that would have locked down the last two picks last night. From the angle the camera was at I thought it went in...jumped out of my seat a little early. Have a large card today, at least the largest you'll see from me.

If chicago had played better against a very damaged pens team yesterday I would have jumped on them. I was not impressed with their play, especially the sloppiness on defense. pens easily could have taken that game and the hawks did not seem at all interested in their victory until it came. good luck if you do play that game gin, i would play the UNDER if anything.

I know Pittsburgh is beat up very badly and both of these squads have been inconsistant lately..
I'm just wondering what you think of the price of the washington ML at -130 ( I couldn't get it at -125), I see at some books its up to -145 for washington money line.

I laid off this game fwiw, just trying to improve my handicapping of hockey

Hey Vix, I generally do not bet any moneyline below -140. Even if it is a best vs worst scenario. The reason being 24 -300 favourites lost last year. It is much easier to pick a dog or a low favourite and keep your bankroll in the green. I would not have played had my sportsbook only offered the caps at -145. Pens are severely hurt but I've been impressed with their play in the first period. Just goes to show what some good coaching can do. -130 I would still take. Basically it comes down to your winning percentage. When I am hot I am hitting 65% winners and when i am cold around 52%...its about discipline.
Hope that gives you some food for thought. We are all trying to be better handicappers. Good luck mate!

Well another positive day of good hockey. I have read numerous comments about how "boring" the Caps/Pens game was, and I could not disagree more. Sure it was not reminiscent of some of the absolute shootouts we have seen in past games but it did not lack the intensity nor opportunities we have come to appreciate from these eastern powerhouses. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the game in its entirety, not simply because of the earnings, but because of the effort that was left out there. Pit, missing its best offensive talent, and Was, with some new defensive concentrations, putting on a great show for the true hockey fan. I think that the Caps are in a much better place now then they were a year ago today, regardless of what the standings say. They would have faired considerably better against the habs last year had they played like they did today.

Anyways, I forgot to mention that the PL play today was only a half unit, which is what I generally make all my PL plays. Hopefully that did not phase anybody! Going to post my side plays tonight, might make a few TT picks tomorrow when I see the numbers. Either way gonna be a big card!

Large card today. Was able to get a lot done this weekend which freed up some time this afternoon for calculating more games. Hope it is worth the effort.

Nice job last night. Also just wanted to ask you, that hockey software at sbs that you had spoke about before.. do you have any suggestions for how to take the information it provides you with to help you make a decision on play.. or do you feel its worth while to purchase?

I'm winning nicely in hockey this year over a small sample so I can't come out and say I'm picking 62%, but I've picked some sweet spots, just wondering if the software helps you "reinforce" your inital analysis of the game.

This is where true knowledge of two teams comes into play. Boston the better team consistently in many areas of the game and certainly on paper, but Calgary the hottest team in the West at the moment. Honestly, I would take the under or nothing in this game. I think the flames are a great team in their own barn, but if Boston comes prepared and focused Calgary will not have a chance.

glad you are making some profit, you are one of the few (regardless of what sports "experts" will lead you to believe). there are three components that i find helpful with the PDS software:
-game database; i use it for quick recovery of game historys and opening lines
-handicapping; there are 16, i believe, different settings to adjust how the system makes recommendations. ie you can adjust if it takes a teams last 5 games or 10 games into account
-statistics; power rankings adjusted daily, ats, roi, road, home, dog, favourite. it literally can recount all of this information for you as you adjust the calendar

i always look at the card one, two and three days in advance and usually have my picks selected the night before. pds sends out their software updates between 7-11am Eastern every day so i then review my picks from a computer standpoint. for example todays pds picks were PHX, CGY, NJD. its O/U picks were DET/SJS u5.5 and PHI/PHX u5.5. As a capper i have to understand the settings i have selected to understand why these are the picks. the software is up many units on the year because it does not simply bet -200 favourites. so yes, i do use it to reinforce my picks, but i generally will not bet against the software either. all in all i have been very satisfied with the purchase. although i have not used other hockey software so cannot truly compare it to others that may be available. hope that helps andy!
