Without Lundqvist I can see it go two-ways: Either a nice confident victory for Rangers or a small loss for them. NYR are playing the best hockey of the year. Offense is on fire, powered by Nash and Zuccarello, recently a boost by other players too and Callahan has silenced the talk about problems revolving around his contract at the match vs Colorado (he scored 2 goals and added an assist). I'd be very confident with King Henrik in net, he allowed like 1 goal in each of past 3 matches but Talbot shouldn't be underestimated either. When Lundqvist was in a slump, Talbot was #1, doing the job quite good. Rangers also have upper-hand over Oilers with special teams (PP and PK). Edmonton did wake up recently, the Scrivens trade was a good move or so it seems. They have now won 4/5 after the 6-losses streak. But they were playing vs teams who are struggling with scoring - San Jose, Vancouver, also Nashville so these victories are a bit overrated. They were shown their place in Boston where they have lost with 4-0. Despite the recent points streak they are still dead last in West and 2nd last in the league overall. Rangers are in a very good form, they need points and with tonight's victory they can boost to #4 in East even (if their rivals lose). The only way I can see Edmonton getting this one is if Rangers get too offensive and Oilers score a couple of goals on them because of it, since Talbot is in the net.

#422Ok. I remember Talbot's performance earlier this year. He was doing well. If the rust didn't cake up in his joints too much he can continue that tonight.
It'll be tough for Scrivens if they don't lock down on Def tonight. He's seeing way too many shots a game since being in Oilers. I give him all the credit in the world for those saves, but Oilers defense is terrible. Like 39 shots a game when Scrivens starts for them. Not too mention that 59 shot game shutout (Sharks; lost money there).Comment -

#427but it seems as if puck has hit Bournival and bounced directly to White while Luongo was searching for it infront of him and both Vancouver d-men were holding Bournival. Unlucky goal but not sure if it's right to blame it on Luongo. One of the D-men should have White covered... Canucks #24 let go of his player - White - and jumped in to cover Bournival so White was free.

#434Ben Bishop left the match early tonight with another injury. I have no idea how serious it is and if he will be able to play vs Detroit in 2 days. I have also not much idea about these AHL teams: Syracuse and Springfield, I just know Syracuse is affiliate of Tampa Bay and if Bishop is out, they are getting the goalies from there prior the match vs Red Wings so I'll just lay a bet on tomorrow's match against Syracuse meaning I'll be backing up Springfield Falcons reg. @ -108 MarathonBet 5/10.Comment -

Value in Detroit. Tampa Bay probably won't risk Bishop in the final day before the break for his injury to advance. Desjardins is poop. They are also without Filppula which is a huge blow. Detroit on the other side got Datsyuk back just in the right time before Sochi. They had problems beating Florida but in the end went home with 2 points. Wings are currently 8th and they could really use points to stay there. Tough match-up for them because Tampa Bay has won all 3 mutual matches so far though but IMO Detroit shouldn't be underdog here.Comment -

Russia -4.5 @ -137 Pinnacle 6/10
Russia/Slovenia over 6.5 @ -118 Pinnacle 6/10
I was expecting a bigger underestimation of Slovenian national team against hosts. It will be the first match for Russians and they will want to open their tournament with a confident victory to show they are the main contender for gold. They have a very good chance for that because they can crush Slovenia in their opening match. Slovenian team consists more or less of a constant team members through the past years, the only great additions are Kopitar and Mursak. Russia on the other side has their top NHL and some of KHL team. Compared to Canada or USA Russians are a bit weaker in the defense so they will want to bet on their powerful offense which is too much of quality for Slovenians in every aspect.
To contrast it a bit: in IIHF WC 2011 in Bratislava Slovenia played 6-4 vs Russians and in that match Kovalchuk and Radulov alone were dangling the whole Slovenian team while Slovenians were scoring lucky bounces goals from impossible situations. I've been there so I know! In reality I expect a result along 7-1 for Russia in Sochi. Slovenian defense won't be able to stop fast and powerful Russian offense so there will also be many penalties. I think it's safe to assume Russians will capitalize their chances. Probably Robert Kristan will start in net for Slovenia but it doesn't really matter which goalie will start because he will have to stand on his head to allow less than 5 goals. Kristan or Gracnar are capable of doing that but... it's opening match against powerful hosts. To illustrate it a bit: in Vancouver 2010 Canada as a host played their opening match vs Norway and they have won with 8-0. In the same day Russia played their first match beating Latvia with 8-2. Perhaps I'm underestimating Slovenian team but I think it's worth of grabbing these odds early.Comment -

I also like player props:
Kovalchuk, Radulov, Malkin, Ovechkin all over 1.5 points in the match. Should be top 2 lines, also playing powerplay for Russians. As I expect more than 5 goals scored by Russians, I think good chances are for these players to be involved into 2 goals or more.

Zetterberg to score @ +250 Betsson 0.5/10
Funny odds, most of other bookies have this line much lower. TonyBet is Estonian bookie, I rarely use it. Deposited some money in preseason because they were offering hockey matches which other bookies didn't. I think Sweden has more depth in their team than Czechs who have weak defense. Pavelec won't even be at the match so that's another funny decision by their coach. Nice odds for Zetterberg to score. According to practice lines and projections he will play as a center in 1st line along Steen and Landeskog. Pretty fearful line which should create many good chances. He is a goalgetter so I think it's worth of trying for small stakes.Comment -

In 1st period Swiss are more dangerous, they started extremely aggresively, created some nice chances and only because of Lundqvist the score remains 0. On the other side Swedes with a few counterattacks and nice show of individual skills. So far both goalies are solid so it remains 0-0. If you'd give me these odds prior to the match, I'd take them with no secondguessing. I think by the end of the match the quality of Swedes and Lundqvist will prevail. Perhaps Switzerland can get them to OT but if they didn't score in the 1st period, I think it will be even harder later on. Yesterday against Latvia they had same inefficiency issues and a hot goalie on the opposite side.Comment -
