Figure This One Out

3 friends check into a motel for the night and the clerk tells them the bill was $30, payable in advance. So, they each pay the clerk $10 each and go to their room. A few minutes later, the clerk realises he has made an error and has charged the trio $5 to much. He asks the bellhop to take the $5 to them. The bellhop realises he has an oppertunity to make $2 his reason is the trio would have a hard time splitting $5 between them.So he tells them the clerk overcharged them by $3. He pockets $2 and the trio each recieve a $1 this means they only payed $9 each which is a total of $27 for the room. We know that the beelhop has $2 add this to the $27 you get $29 not $30 . Where did the other dollar go?????????????????????????????????????

So the cashier has $30.

Now the cashier has $25, the bellhop has $5

He pockets $2 and the trio each recieve a $1

Now the cashier has $25, the bellhop has 2, and each man has 1. 25+2+1+1+1=30. What other dollar?

the actual room rate is 25 dollars. the bell boy pocketed 2 dollars. 25+2=27

this kind of logic reminds me of a con man trick where one tries to confuse the tell with back and forth change and end up with 10 dollars ahead.
