    Probability and statistics thread
The random walk/probability question in Players Talk made me wonder if anyone has probability- or statistics-related questions they'd like answered. I am plumb ignorant about most sports/betting things but my day job is doing fairly high-level statistics. So, if it's helpful, fire away. If you don't have a background in these subjects, I would start by getting comfortable with the definition of a random variable:

I also know a bit about programming in R, which I strongly strongly recommend for anything more complicated than taking averages.

xbalto, Can you help me determine the random variable of the girl at the bar who wants to give me the goods. From the set of all girls that are likely to be sitting at the bar of TGI Fridays?

I would ask MANswers. But since you have all the knowledge, i'll ask you...

Going to the bar in a few hours... So anything you tell me, i'll report back with my progress.

I started reading Think Tank threads as sort of a crash course. Old Ganchrow threads, especially.
