Normalizing numbers that could be negative
    Hi all,

In a 'create your own power ranking scenario,' I often come across variables that could be negative that I'd like to (try) to account for.

An example could be + / - rating in hockey.

What is the best way to affect a A/A+B, B/B+A (=1) where A or B or both could be negative?

I have experimented a bit (^2 and sqrt, e.g.), but get odd results (in the context of a home made power line).

We haven't covered this in my stats night school class yet.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

    Daws
