Historical MLB Underdog betting records (money line)
Historical MLB Underdog betting records (money line)
Does anyone have or know where to find past records of MLB money line records?
For example if you only bet underdogs would you be up or down for the season? Thanks.
You might want to check out SportsInsights- they have a feature called bet labs that allows you to filter based on numerous criteria. I think you can create a demo account for a free trail period, but it's a pay service.

Right, but is there a site that has already summed the daily results for each season? Thanks man.

Yeah, you can do all of that with the GUI. I guess I'm not understanding what you're asking?
Let's say you wanted to know the win/loss in units and SU for betting all dogs for April through June of last year, where the spread moved by more than 10 cents towards the underdog and the temperature was between 60 and 80 degrees. Just set those filters to what you want and run it. It'll give you the results as well as a line plot tracking your balance for those bets.
The caveat is that most of the filtering strategies you look at are losers. Because betting based on any arbitrary list of criteria is (shocker!) a losing strategy. Moreover, the "winning" trends you do find are almost certainly false positives that result from multiple hypothesis testing (meaning- if you test enough filters, you'll eventually find something that wins). But it's a nice interface, and pretty intuitive.

Checked out SportsInsights, the BetLabs software is exactly what I'm looking for but you gotta pay for it. The only thing they offer for a free trial is the Live Odds. I will keep looking, theres gotta be a free alternative to BetLabs I hope.

Create a database and do it yourself.
Otherwise, pay for it.

I love the "do it yourself or pay for it advice." Brilliant, thanks for taking the time to post that.
Also 'betting only underdogs' was just an example of a certain filter, so whether it would show a profit or not is meaningless.

People don't tend to work to build a database and then give it away for free. If you want the data, I have it, as I'm sure others do. PM me if interested in purchasing.

I think we've gotten spoiled by all of the free media on the internet.
How much can a subscription service possibly cost? If all you want is to test some hypotheses about betting system strategies, the Bet Labs interface is perfect for doing an exploratory analysis. So buy a one month subscription for the price of a movie ticket and then don't re-up; it shouldn't break your bank.

Is not the answer obvious that it is NO. Don't you think if just betting underdogs blindly was profitable, everyone would do it?

Wow, so lets recap. I'm too cheap to pay for it. I'm too lazy to do it myself. And betting only underdogs was just an example!
All I asked if there was a free way to get this info! A simple no woulda been good enough you freakin creeps.
Perfect! Thanks very much, exactly what I was looking for.

I always check to see if someone has ever contributed anything worthwhile when they're trying to mooch free shit, and they're almost always as worthless as you as a poster.

That's why whenever I consider holding a door for someone I give them a looking over and ask myself "what has this person done for me"? 99% of the time I release my grip.

...and I should add not just release it, but I'll often add on a little mustard so that the door actually swings back a little harder than natural forces would allow.

I simply asked a question and my man evo34 had the answer and helped me out no questions asked and I thanked him. What was the bad part here fellas? Asking for a link to a website is mooching? Ok back to saving lives with all your SBR forum contributions boys. Have a nice day.

This is simple:
The cheap way: do it yourself.
The lazy way: pay for it.

Sportsdatabase only offers 1/100 of what's available in Betlabs. It's a unique research tool that improve your handicapping. It's basically the Buckeye Database on steroids - teams statistics, streaks, and the ability to save your systems and receive daily alerts with available plays.
I'll answer MikeyFingers original question concerning 2013 MLB dogs. The analysis took all of 20 secs.
MLB Dogs in 2013
895-1191
-1.2%
-$2,454
Money won is -$2454, that means a person betting $100 per bet would have lost -$2454. So betting all underdogs in MLB has been unprofitable in 2013 but you can easily look a little deeper at Home/Away results and Moneyline ranges to see if there is anything.
Home/Away split
Visitor
609-840
-0.8%
-$1,157
Home
286-351
-2%
-$1,297
Still not much there, so I dug deeper into Moneyline ranges. With another 60 secs of analysis I quickly see that in 2013 betting Visiting Dogs in the +110 to +125 range has been profitable. Remember that you're betting dogs so your win % can be below 52.4% and you can still win money.
Record:
163-172, 48.7%Avg Margin:
0.13Money Won:
+$1,851ROI:
5.5%

I'd say it's worth it but that's just me.
I did home dogs in those lower ranges and that won me in a bundle in the middle 2000's, but has subsided over the past few seasons. But if you couple that with certain public bet %'s, it's been a winner most every year. The key is find the right filters as cited above.

Anyone know if there is an app for phones similar to BetLabs data? If there was one that's free, great but unlikely. However, I am willing to pay for one no problem. Any ideas?
