Garcia will start, but Connor Shaw will see some action.. Shaw had a great showing durring their scrimages.. But Garcia is Carolina's starter.. Maybe later in the season, who knows?. I believe both QB's in this 1st game is just to keep Ga. guessing what to expect in week 2..

Carolina is bringing back the #15 passing and #8 total defense in the country last year. SM relying on passing is not a good #1 option. Did you see how many turnovers they caused against Alabama? Playing in Williams Brice on Thursday is brutal for an opener.Comment -
This is not a game where SC can keep the playbook closed or do things just to prepare for next week. SC will have to go all out in this one. All plays will be open, and SC will doing everything possible to maximize their chances to win the game. Trust me, SC has not even thought about Georgia.

Actually when you are an underdog like SM playing at SC, the best way to neutralize the game is to go for broke and air it out, hoping to connect. If you are a running team against SC defense you have no shot at all, that is if you are a 2 TD underdog. Alabama on the other hand can run the ball on anyone.Comment -

You are arguing here against my point that it is better to be a passing team than a running team against a great overall defense, when you are a 1/5 underdog. Here is why you are wrong.
The fact is that SC was also ranked like 15 in the NCAA last year in rushing defense. They were simply a great overall defense. If you are a run first team with a bad or average QB, and come into Columbia as a fairly big underdog, you are not going to be able to run the ball.....at all. However if you are a passing team, you can get in the shotgun and if your QB gets hot, it doesn't matter how good the secondary of the other team is, you are going to put up points.
I am switching Southern Mississippi from my play of the year to my play of the decade. That means my play of 2010-2019. Which means I can't pick another play of the decade for 10 years. I am very big on this game. I am risking a lot, 15 of my normal units to be exact. When Southern Mississippi beats SC, I am going to be able to go pro and may even start offering my picks.Comment -
Wow, you are ballsy backing up a team going into one of the most hostile venues in America with a talented defense to go up against. And again if you decide to go pass heavy against them you are playing into the strength of the team. All they have to do is pass rush in nickel and it is goodnight. The secondary is the deepest position on the team and pass rushing is not a problem. If SM gets behind early playing like that it will be a long night. But I do hope to see you here after the game after that bold prediction. A play of the decade on a C-USA team vs a stout SEC defense?

edit: to make this clear, this is information I am getting from a friend reading the info on twitter.
Just found out that NCAA dropped the hammer on the Gamecocks. About half of their defensive starters and a key offensive lineman will not play tonight. 1 or 2 of the defensive starters won't play due to injury, 4 others are suspended including a key backup.
Included are their 2 starting defensive tackles, 2 starting linebackers (edit: 3 starting linebackers now), 1 starting safety, 1 backup cornerback, and a starting offensive lineman. edit: 2 starting offensive linemen. This is info I got from a friend getting it from twitter.
