SC is a 14 point favorite. They are always better early than later in the year. Should start strong and cover against Southern Miss. Many returning starters. Good feelings abound in Columbia.

South Carolina TE Weslye Saunders was just suspended for lying to the coaching staff. Status for this game is up in the air. Was the second leading returning receiver for the Gamecocks. Some have him as the top TE prospect in the country. Huge blow if he remains suspended for this game.Comment -

Southern Miss should be ready to make a splash according to recruiting. IMO, 2 of their best recruiting classes were the 2009 and 2008 classes which would make those guys sophomores and juniors. As a huge S.C. fan, my opinion is to lay off this game.. Like TheProfit said, too much other on the board for week 1.. S.C. will win, but maybe not by 2 TD's.. I've watched for years as they'll play smaller schools and get behind early.. Then spend the 2nd half trying to catch up.. I've sat in WilliamBrice many times thinking we were gonna get beat by Wofford, Furman, Ect.. I'm just not sure they'll come out firing in the 1st half like they should.. If they do, we cover easily, but if history repeats, 14-14.5 is too many..Comment -
One big difference with these Southern Miss teams, vs. the teams under the previous coach, is they have consistently shown the ability to get stronger even through the 4th quarter. This should be very beneficial catching all these points. This team has nice depth and will stay aggressive through the end so a back door cover is not out of question.Comment -

This. Carolina always plays up/down to their competition. Southern Miss will more than likely hang along way more than any Gamecock fan is comfortable with. As far as the play, there are much better games on the board.Comment -
Nothing set in stone yet, but possibly Saunders, safety A. Auguste, cornerback C.C. Whitlock, & OT J. King.. NCAA is still investigating, so this is just speculation.. But, these would be the most likely canidates, if some players have to miss the 1st game.. Also, RB J. Giles is still wearing a yellow jersey to practice, but could be ready by the 1st game.. I think he'll play, but maybe not.. LB S. Wilson has an injured hamstring, so i also expect him to miss with Q. Smith filling in for him.. Coaches aren't talking too much yet, but i'll try to keep you updated..
