I have Indiana +7 but that's not the whole point. The point is that if the Michigan State guy goes down after getting the first down the game is over. You take a knee 3 times to run the clock out. Indiana never gets the ball again.

I get what you're saying though... Either the Sparty player falls down after picking up the 1st, or Indiana continues to play defense and we most likely cover this spread. But the Hoosiers giving up the score to fall back by 8 when we're +7 is a tough pill to swallow.

What Sparty did at the end was dumb, but that scenario probably doesn't get worked on in practice a whole lot so most players would have walked into the end zone just like that kid did. It's tough to fight your natural instincts in the heat of the moment unless it's been drilled into your head what exactly to do by the coaches, which it probably wasn't.

I have to tell you I still remember a 2nd half under that I bet. All I remember was that ASU was up by 1 with little time on the clock and the running back has an open lane to score a TD and he deliberately goes down after getting the 1st down! They run out the clock and I get my under. The 2nd half would have gone over had he trotted into the end zone to score so I guess it works both ways.

Some coaches call timeout in situations like this and tell their players what to do. Others bumble on and let the door open as a possibility to lose the game.
