Edgar finally moving to 145.

The UFC featherweight division is known for its fast-paced, high-skilled bouts and the well-rounded skills of its participants, and now a high-profile, former 155-pound kingpin is heading to their ranks, immediately adding even more depth to the weight class.

Frankie Edgar (14-3-1), who has long heard the call from the UFC brass and many fans to drop a weight class, has decided cutting weight for the first time in his eight year professional fight career isn’t so bad after all.

“The fight at UFC 150 didn’t go my way,” said Edgar. “I’m not saying I’ll never fight 155 ever again but this is something different. (UFC president) Dana (White) wants me to go down and right now it’s the right time to do it.”

But Edgar got a little more incentive to drop to 145 after featherweight champion Jose Aldo told Tatame.com that he’d like to close the book on all the Edgar talk at his weight class.

“He said he wants to drop to featherweight so I’m hoping he does that to end this story,” Aldo said. “He’s welcome here so that we can shut him off and he goes to the lightweight or bantamweight classes.”

Edgar responded to those statements by immediately making up his mind to go to 145.

“That definitely helped me make my decision,” he said. “I’m a competitive person and when someone talks like that it makes me want to get in there and see what ‘45 is all about.”

I think Aldo is a terrible match up for Edgar. Edgar won't have the quickness/speed advantage his is accustomed to and relies on to win at 155. Aldo has the best TDD in the UFC. Aldo will weigh as much if not more than Edgar. If Henderson could connect so well with his leg kicks imagine what Aldo will do. I really don't see how edgar wins this fight.

I personally think he should fight Mendes or Hioki or maybe Poirier first. If Edgar does well and succeeds, he should get a shot at Aldo. However, I would cap Aldo around -180 / -200 range against Frankie, and he is the rightful favorite.

Edgar would still be quick at featherweight, and I believe he does have the speed to hang with Aldo on the feet. Edgar's hands and overall boxing are superior to Aldo's. I can't think of a boxer with quicker footwork in the UFC, that possesses the hand speed of Edgar. He moves in and out beautifully, with great head movement. I will admit Aldo's crazy kicks are a problem. I think if he goes for takedowns as those kicks from Aldo are thrown, he could secure them on Aldo if he times them right.

Point is, the fight would be competitive imo, and I like Frankie as a dog.

Man I am super excited to see how Edgar does at Featherweight. He is going to bring a lot to the division. I would love to see how he fares against the likes of Mendes, Hioki, Aldo, or anyone else in the top ten-ish. I believe it is the best move he could have made. Very smart.

i dunno edgar is a tough style for anyone but, he looks like he's getting a little chinny from all the abuse. Aldo could end his career. Look what aldo did to Hommicks chin. If edgar can gas him out I see a decision win. Or else it's a brutal brutal knock out.

I don't want to talk too much about it before the line comes out because that little twerp kalikas is probably lurking jerking his tiny rooster. But Aldo is gonna fock him up.

Pretty convienent that Koch comes up with an injury and Edgar steps up for the mega match for the belt in Brazil. The ufc knows there is a good chance that frankie loses in a title eliminator so they make the money fight happen now. First rule of promotion.

Over under on kalikas' rooster is 4.5

Edgar can take anyone down he wants including Aldo. It is not like this is his game. You never see him going for takedowns. He gets them when the timing is right. He isn't like Sonnen and just bull rushes you. If you can takedown Maynard and Hendo u can take down Aldo. Again he isn't like a guy like Mendes and looks for the takedowns. He lures u into his takedowns.
