Creative grappler. Needs to work on his striking and stand up defense. Great in scrambles.

I think Askren is a very skilled wrestler but he will fall short against anyone who can stuff his takedowns (Kos for example).

I had Askren in parlay that lost so I had to watch his fight with no $ on it and man was it painful. It was 25 minutes of torture. Then afterwards he responds to the boos with some irritating comments, he should have atleast begged for focking forgivness like GSP does.

There is a reason nobody watches amatuer wrestling, and that was a perfect example.

Amatuer wrestling is a lot like bodybuilding. The only people that really go to a bodybuilding show are bodybuilders, their families, and weird dudes who like to look at men pose.

The only people who watch amatuer wrestling are wrestlers themselves, ex wrestlers, or their families. Or you could be a weird dude that like to see dudes rolling around.

In other words, very few people watch it. Hence the creation of "Pro Wrestling" where they throw out the actual competition (cause it's boring) and add in all kinds of crazy shit that would never happen in a "normal" wrestling match so people would actually watch it.

Not to mention make up soap opera like stories and hyper-sexualize the male characters which had shock value and also excited the portion of men who happen to be excited by that.

All this because real "wrestling" is so enthralling?

Unfortunately this is another one of those heavily polarizing topics. I totally agree with your stance but there are a lot of weirdos who would chime in and sit here for hours upon end defending the integrity and excitement of the sport and give us all the reasons why it's awesome. They'd be happy to dream up all kinds of reasons for why it's riveting and incredible. I've listened to many arguments about this and it almost always ends exactly the same. Wrestler supporters claim that anyone who finds it boring simply don't know or aren't educated on any of the techniques and positions associated with wrestling and if they were than they would like it. I am educated on the positions, wrestling styles, techniques and methods and I still hate watching it so that point is pretty bad. The other stupid point that is constantly brought up is the fact of how hard it is for these wrestlers to control their opponents on the ground like they do. I realize that it is very difficult to lay on someone for 15 or 25 minutes and remain laying on top of them without them getting up but that doesn't mean it's exciting or something most people want to watch! lol. I'm almost a bit of a hypocrite because I do love jui-jitzu and hell I even appreciate good wrestlers (who work to improve position and don't stall or just hold guys down). What I don't like watching is male on male blanket hugging on the ground with no damage inflicted or movement, transitions or position advancement. AKA -most fitch fights. I feel like I wanna shoot myself to escape the boredom when watching pretty much every tyron woodley fight! Guys like tyron woodley are terrible for this brilliant ever evolving sport. If that becomes the norm and gutless strategy that dudes resort to for exploiting the scoring system for safe, boring wins then I'll stop watching. It is a young and rapidly developing sport however and so I have faith that things will work out in years to come.

It's especially irritating for those who are hard core fans who also like to bet because so often you must take into account the wrestlers ability to get top position and hold his opponent down, no matter how much you hate that fighter, that fighters going to win by exploiting the system and earning points imposing virtually no harm to his adversary. At least you can win money off many wrestlers I guess

Your stance is probably very accurate as far as fans go. However, I have a group of friends that have not wrestled and they find it very entertaining. It does help if you have a fan base like Minnesota where they pack an average of 7500 fans for each home match. Iowa and WI will pull close to 12,000 fans. It's an incredible atmosphere here in MN. There are schools where there are only a few hundred fans attend and I could see where that could be an easy bor.

I have zero problem with your stance on amatur wrestling, but it is a huge atribute to have in mma imo. Controling an opponent's will is huge.

                          Have a good weekend pal.
