I'm a UFC nuthugger? this forum has really added a bunch of internet tough guys of late. Come here with the nuthugger, noob, cans, and go back to Sherdog talk

you're a hater because you call him overrated for one tough performance, which is pretty ignorant to say of a great fighter imo...

Perhaps I'm wrong but you don't give the impression that you're a gil fan. lol I'm not trying to be a tough guy here I'm just pointing out its pathetic and that post was meant to be generally directed to all the haters, not just you, so don't take it personal its just my opinion - no need to get your panties twisted dude - its all gravy baby.

I'm gonna have to agree with Lock on this one, I think Gil is overrated too, his opponents have all been below top competition. Josh Thompson is probably one of the better 155er's in strikeforce but in the UFC he wouldn't even be in the top 10. I think there are plenty of UFC lightweights that could beat gil melendez, none of his performances have ever impressed not just this one with thompson. Let me make a list of fighters who I strongly believe could beat gilbert

      Cowboy Cerrone
      Ben Henderson
      Frankie Edgar
      Gray Maynard
      Nate Diaz
      Anthony Pettis

It's like watching football all your life from the sidelines and never actually playing it in your life then saying hey look at me I know everything about the sport.

The best boxing experts and the best MMA experts are people who have trained people who have experience in the game not people who watch from the sidelines. Go and find a gym I guarantee your respect for your fellow man will change for the better once you feel someone in a clinch or get taken down like a child. Go and get punched in the face a few times and tell me it doesn't change things up.
Wtf at thinking you have to fight mma to be good at capping it. That's like saying you need to put on the pads to be good at capping the nfl. I bet most elite atheletes are horrible at capping their own sport.

I didn't say fight I said train and unless you've trained you don't really know shit about mma, like you for instance don't know shit other than what Joe Rogan tells you.

What people don't realize is that everything they know about a particular sport was taught to them by people who have participated in that sport on the inside. That is, unless you have participated that sport yourself.

Nothing could be truer for MMA. If you have never fought/trained/sparred in any aspect of MMA the only thing you could know about the sport is what what the EXPERTS tell you. It's like saying a eskimo who has never even heard of baseball will be able to watch a game with no volume and be able to know exactly what going on, let alone predict who is going to win based on their knowledge of the game.

So what you call "handicapping" is merely just regurgitating the opinions of people who have fought/trained/sparred and using them as their own. Not to say that you cannot become proficient at doing this, but you still need the so called "experts".

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes.
Well documented cognitive biases such as the one quoted above are the reason we have kids betting 100 sbr points on a fight and thinking they are the sharp money. It's the same reason why kids who have never thrown a punch in their life think they are an expert on the subject, despite being proven to have no knowledge on the subject whatsoever.

I'm pretty sure that everything you know about mma was also taught to you by someone who has participated in the sport, don't think you hit the mat and came up with the rear-naked choke yourself. If you watch or practice mma you're taught be someone

Exactly. It's not me claiming I don't need these people, it's the kids who bet 50 bucks and think they are the smart money that are claiming they taught themselves. Saying "they've watched alot of fights", lol.

I'm not claiming to be some kinda expert at all. But from what little I know I can tell some of the most opinionated people on MMA people here are some of the most ignorant, and I think it was proven in this thread.

Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge
