(UNLV football stadium seats 40,000. why not there? dont need any construction at all!)
Pacquiao is dodging the fight and bob arum is making every excuse in the book. Now Pacquiao has found another excuse besides the refusal to take USADA olympic style testing and the "my minor cut takes over 6 months to heal" argument. Now his camp is saying they wont fight because they have a fantasy about wanting to build a temporary outdoor arena that seats more ppl. with more seating that "could" bring in an extra 20-30 million.
First off, isn't it a strange "coincidence" that no one ever heard this pathetic "Pacquiao wont fight without temporary stadium in streets" excuse until 2 days AFTER Mayweather called him out?
Where was this idea last month? where was this idea last year? where was this idea EVER? Why is this excuse randomly surfacing from pacquiao's camp now, TWO DAYS after Mayweather calls pacquiao out? Because pacquiao doesn't want to fight in May, and they are making whatever pathetic excuse they can to try to deflect the blame on floyd. At least this excuse is a bit more credible than the "6 months isnt enough time to recover from my small cut" excuse. On 2nd thought... no it isn't.
Third.... Floyd is contracted with MGM May 5th... and im not sure he would be able to cancel it with mgm without having to pay them a hefty some of money for breaching a contract and leaving them with substantial damages due to having an empty 17,000 seat arena, that was supposed to be full, on a holiday. Floyd pretty much HAS to fight on May 5th. He is under contractual obligation to fight May 5th. For Pacquiao to offer a later date in May is a dishonest offer to fight because they know its impossible.
Fourth... Really??? Outdoor Stadium in street they're gonna assemble by hand? REALLY???? YOU SH*TTIN ME????
We have a LEGITIMATE shot to make this fight happen, a date reserved at mgm on May 5th... It is 100% possible. just sign the papers and the fight will happen! You want to complicate it with a Bob-The-Builder "we demand a 40,000 seat outdoor venue on the streets" theory?!
Um... not even addressing why its nonsensical to try to complicate the world's most complicated fight even more...
Why not UNLV football stadium? Dont need any construction at all. Why need to build stadium on the street?
And what about the cost of building a 40,000 seat temporary outdoor stadium on the streets? You gonna build all that for free? you say it could bring in 30 million more... but with all the workers and capital required, i bet it would cost 10million to assemble a high quality 40,000 seat venue over a few months. So that leaves us at 20million extra revenue.
im probably overestimating the ppv buys, but with all the hype, i'd speculate that the fight could draw close to 2.7-3 million ppv buys... (using higher estimate) at 50/pop, 3million buys would generate 150 million. plus the mgm revenue 20 million with brings it to 170 million. That's not including ad revenue etc. So Pacquiao is refusing to fight because he needs the fight to bring 190 million instead of 170 million?
Assuming that its 20 million extra with the "Now Pacquiao wants to build an outdoor venue" theory... the extra 20 million will be split 10 to each fighter... after all the federal/state/local taxes, promotor cut, trainer cut, etc..... pacquiao would probably only be getting an extra 3 million from that.
So Pacquiao's going through all the hassle of wanting to build a temporary 40,000 seat stadium on the streets from scratch, and potentially ruin the fight... all for only an extra 3 million bucks?
... and that's only if Mayweather can get out of his may 5th date with mgm (unlikely).
So the fight could bring in close to 170 million dollars... and Pacquiao would rather complicate it, and risk never fighting because he's having a fit over building an outdoor venue for an extra 3 million bucks? Is 3 million dollars really worth all that hassle?
Is it me, or does an extra 3 million sound like chump-change and a sh*tty excuse to cancel one of the biggest fights of all time, a fight that Pacquiao time-and-time-again swore that he wanted.
What does this pathetic excuse say about Pacquiao's true intention to fight floyd? If he REALLY wanted to fight floyd, he'd fight May 5 at MGM. No hassles. No headaches.
He'd say, "I dont care about an extra 3 million. The purse is huge already. I want Mayweather, and I'm going to make this fight happen on May 5th."
-but he isn't.
Time to stop blaming Floyd, fellas. Pacquiao has ample opportunity to fight May 5th. First it was the "i refuse USADA olympic style tests" argument. Then it was the "my minor cut takes over 6 months to heal" argument. Now its the "in a 170 million dollar fight... I wont fight bc i need to build a temporary outdoor venue for an extra 3 million!"
I think this settles the Floyd/Pacquiao argument. Floyd is ready to fight May 5, and Pacquiao's side is refusing.
