There's no way he is +300. He won the last fight and is on a winning streak while BJ is a huge question mark right now. That said, I'll probably take BJ at the discount. Edgar had his number but he should be able to dominate not as fast fighters

Anyone actually want to see this fight? Fighting at 170 just gives BJ even more of a license to blow off training. He will be fat, slow, ugly, and even more angering by wasting his talent. Zero percent chance he comes in to this fight in shape. He may win round one, but just like his last fight with Hughes, he will gas in the 2nd and 3rd and get beat, then make up some shit excuse about it later. This is coming from a guy who was a hugh BJ Penn fan as recently as Penn/Edgar 1. I just can't stand his laziness anymore.

If Penn gets stopped by hughes again it will show his 1st win over Hughes was a bit of a fluke. I think thats was his only win at 170 in the UFC

Yeah exactly why to bet against Penn as Shagdogy says. I don't think Penn gets it that he needs to switch to a different camp in order to become better. His corner men are no help during the fight and even when they are doesn't seem like Penn listens (edgar vs penn I). Also Penn mentally falls out if he sees his opponent getting the best of him. His second fight against Edgar he should have from the start took him down and worked with him from there, instead he chose the last round to switch his game-plan.

Penn should be a slight dog here imo. Hughes is being underrated today... look at his record and who he's lost to - it's not a long list and it's of high calibur 170 guys. I'll gladly throw down on Matt at anything -150 or better here as I think he'll get it to the ground and have his way after getting outstruck in the first round.

i wonder if this means he's done at LW, if Maynard beats Egar he could have another shot within a couple fights. He beats say Gomi and Sotiropoulos, he can fight for the title again

Penn needs to change training camps and get back with marinovich brothers. Or he needs to take anderson silvas invitation and train with him.

Exactly. BJ's striking is much better, even now that he's slowed down. Problem is, he won't win the fight in the first round as he's become somewhat of a slow starter over the course of his past 4-5 fights. Once the fight hits rounds 2 and 3, BJ's 4 months of twinkie eating and lying around on the beach will get the better of him and he'll mentally quit as Hughes grinds him out.

agree... penn needs to find someone who can help him put together a gameplan.

He doesn't have to make 155 and he gets a rematch. That might be enough motivation for him to actually care about winning a fight. "Baby Jay" living up to his name as usual.

I hate both. but i would go with penn on this one if he is in shape. Hughes is scared to fight him more than any other fighter.

good chance penn is training w/ marinovich's again for this one as per BJpenn.com--sorry, i still can't help but be a fan. the other thing to consider is that this will be a 3 rounder instead of 5. his striking, especially his jab will eat Hughes alive, but if Hughes gets it to the ground right away he may be too strong as BJ is currently only at 165. i like BJ but will never bet his fights because of his mental state from fight to fight

My only reasoning behind possibly betting on BJ is that surely he can't lose three in a row (similar thinking with Miguel Torres in his upcoming fight with Valencia)! This literally is a MUST WIN for him whilst it's not as important for Hughes.

if i remember right didn't hughes rip on penn after the last fight in the cage talking about penn coming in not in shape? when in reality penn had broken a rib and couldn't move?
hopefully that helps with motivation.

in fairness to Hughes, I don't think he knew about Penn's cracked rib at that time.

yeah actually he tore a rib muscle getting up from a takedown. hughes threw a punch from guard and bj ducked under and pulled himself up. he still looked out of shape at 170 though. i actually think he is at a strange position weight wise. he looks too dehydrated at 155 but isn't big enough for 170 (unless he puts on muscle to get to 170)

The lines on Hughes are all trending upward. If it's a toss up I'll probably take Penn, but I am hoping to be able to get Hughes closer to +150 as it gets closer to November 20.
