Here’s our predictions for UFC 117
Silva vs Sonnen:
While his actions in his last fight infuriated alot of fans, Silva nevertheless showed dominance once again over a skilled opponent. He also showed how evasive he can be, never allowing Maia to get a good grip on him. Things will be different when he faces Chael Sonnen, who is perhaps the best wrestler in the division.
I see Sonnen scoring multiple takedowns in this fight, and Anderson having to do some work off his back. Chael’s ground and pound is excellent.
Prediction: With all the smack talking Chael has been doing, you can bet on him coming in with 100% confidence that he can win. However, Anderson is a far better overall fighter and has excellent BJJ skills that will eventually score him a submission victory or at the very least neutralize Chael’s ground and pound.
Fitch vs Alves:
Fitch is a grinder and one tought SOB. He has demonstrated time and time again just how underrated and underappreciated he is, having an undefeated record minus a loss to one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in existence, GSP.
Thiago Alves is a dangerous striker who has displayed devasting power in both hands and feet. He’s one guy you would not want to kick you in the leg. He also has a solid ground game. However, he has been out of the Octogon for about 1 year due to surgery while Fitch has remained active.
Prediction: I see this being a long and grueling battle with Fitch eventually getting his hand raised if he sticks to his grind-and-clinch routine. Waivering from that gameplan could prove deadly as Alves has some serious stopping power.
Nelson vs Dos Santos:
Roy Nelson has shown everyone, including Dana White, that he is a force to be reckoned with in all facets of the sport. This fat guy can move, grapple, and submit (in addition to lie on you and pound you out)
Juniour Dos Santos, however, seems destined to knock everyone out until he gets that title shot. He might just be the most feared striker in the division, to say nothing of his well established ground game.
Prediction: Many people say this is actually the biggest test of Junior Dos Santos’ career, and I agree.e It’s a toss up but I think Junior Dos Santos will come away with split decision win, as chances of a TKO are slight against a very tough Nelson.
