    Sherdog's P4P rankings
For seven and a half years, Fedor Emelianenko was a fixture in the rarified air of pound-for-pound lists. Not anymore.

I was never a fan of their rankings despite being aware of personal opinions do have an effect on how I would rank fighters over how Sherdog would. But Fedor being thrown out of the top 10 altogether after one loss is just blasphemy. Not to mention Frankie > Shogun, and Alves not on the rankings at all when Fitch is 6th.

Wow... Evans, Shields, and Edgar made the P4P top 10? And Fedor is gone? Hilarious.... yeah Sherdog's rankings are always a joke and hardly worth noting.

list looks solid overall but fedor should be in there.

edgar, shields and evans do not belong on that list.

The current pound for pound best would not carelessly put themselves into a position like he did.

Fedor only achieved what he did because the heavyweight division has been very weak in the past. He beat some quality opponents but they were in between crushing cans. The heavyweight devision is finally starting to catch up. I think Velasquez, Carwin, Lesner, Overeem and maybe even Dos Santos all beat Fedor at this stage of his career.

What position? Fighting bigger and stronger opponents? If Fedor dropped to LHW, came to the UFC, and went on like a 5 fight destruction of everyone in the division, would that make him P4P best?(he easily could) Fedor is like 225lbs, it would be a simple cut. Why hasn't Fedor done the cut? It's because he's a fearless and exciting fighter who only wants to fight the best. It's ridiculous that he's not on a P4P list. Why should he have to cut any weight at all? Fedor could care less what people rank him. BJ Penn is on the list and his record is terrible. Losing to several 170lb opponents. Why hasn't this affected him on anyones list? He gets credit for fighting up, but Fedor does not. And yes, Fedor is fighting up because he can cut the weight.

                Completely agree.

I don't think anyone knows what pound for pound means.

I typed up a large response but for some reason my browser crashed and I lost it. Here’s a more compressed version.

Fedor actually has had some advantages fighting at heavyweight. The division has always been much weaker mainly because the big heavyweight athletes tend to gravitate to stick and ball sports because that is where the money is. Fedor seems to be slowing down now but he also had a big speed advantage fighting at heavyweight. It was for these very reasons that across the world Randy Couture moved up to heavyweight.
Another reason he doesn’t deserve to be high on the P4P list is because he hasn’t been consistently fighting quality opponents.

Pound for pound means, if everyone was the same weight who would be the best fighter. Not who can move up a weight class and win.
Of course if he went on 5 fight winning streak fighting the best UFC LHW’s he’d be the pound for pound best but that goes for anyone if they were to achieve that. Fedor obviously doesn’t want to fight the best or he would have joined the UFC after Affliction folded.
