Oldboy is incredible; I think it's between that and Ikiru, but it's close.

What is the GOAT Kubrick film? I though 2001 was okay not great. Eyes Wide Shut is his masterpiece.

Yeah. Very good film, though I don't think it's on the level of Ikiru or Oldboy. Ikiru is a film that everyone should see, it can change how you view the world.

audition is for horror fans. I honestly would not suggest it to most people unless they like horror.

Battle Royale was focking incredible. Another of the best films I've ever seen.
I watched Eyes wide shut about 5 times. To get the meaning. Or one of the meanings. It shows you women, or money no matter how much you get it is not happiness or fulfillment.
You show me a broad that is a 10 I can show you a guy who is tired of fucking her. It is all about what you cant obtain.
The guy in the movie is a Doctor with a beautiful apartment, a child and a wife. But he still feels inferior to the navy guy. So he seeks more and more and more.

i also think Kubrick says a lot about the human relationship between sexes and monogamy. Studies suggest the female human is serial monogamous. Kubrick does not believe this. I also don't believe it. The human female is closer the songbird. She cheats to avoid possible inbreeding.
I think worrying about a female staying loyal is wasted energy. Open relationships also dont work. I think allowing one cheat day a year is the healthiest way to live without unnecessary drama.

I haven't watched the other in the series, but Oldboy is indeed up there as one of the better films of all time. I think Seven Samurai could be rated more highly though. Audition had some seriously haunting imaginary, when he crawls out of the bag.. damn son.
Watch Battle Royale.. Not on the same scale as the other films, but was loving that shit. Had an anime feel to it. Wouldn't wipe my ass with the PG-13 remake piece of shiet Hunger Games.
Dr. Strangelove might be my favorite Kubrick film that shiet's funny as fuark. Clockwork Orange as well... Then again Full Metal Jacket is a master piece as well. Very distinct film kubrickesque humor in that as well. Dude was a true master in filmmaking, even though he's crazy as fuk.
No wait actually:
This film is a motherfuker too.. Introduced a lot of elements we see widely used in cinema today, and every shot is cinematographically perfect basically. Interesting to see how his film changed over the years with experience. Gotta admit though, I'm a philistine and have not watched 2001 yet.

It's no longer on youtube but if you can find it watch Kubrick's Odyssey & Kubrick's Odyssey 02. Here is an old interview of the man who created the documentary.

Wow I thought 2001 was considered Kubricks number 1 film. I agree Kubrick is p4p number 1. Eyes wide shut for my tastes has the most haunting imagery and so many points it makes. I wont even get into the christmas tree imagery and the significance of the bear at the end of the film. Also pay attention to the two japanese business men. They tie in to the bear at the end of the film and the likely future of his daughter.
It's hard for me to watch full metal so I will take your word for it. Watch Eyes Wide Shut and read some of the Rob Agers and other essays online about the film. It has truly changed my expectation from females and what the relationship is truly for and the utility both can get out of it.
Mirin what do you think of my idea of a cheat day to get around worrying about loyalty and yet steer away from open relationships?

You should watch the film, I think you'd like it. Probably a good decision to skip 2001; it's worth a watch some time, but I don't think it's something you'd enjoy (and I don't mean that as a thinly-veiled insult.)
