valero commits suicide, major loss to boxing
most of you have no idea who he was but trust me, the guy was an awesome awesome boxer, he just couldnt fight in the US because of a brain injury from a motorcycle accident and then when he finally got his chance, he f-ed it up by getting a DUI in vegas. the guy would have been the closest thing to a challenge to manny pacquiao 'cause valero could straight up box. total tragedy that his wife his dead at his hands and now so is he.

Not a major loss to humanity. If I am not mistaken he beat and killed his wife. He did the right thing.

I cant believe that the venezuela authorities did not cover up his murder. You would figure a national hero in a country like that would be protected for the sake of the countries moral. I dunno maybe they dont follow boxing in venezuela

I'm distraught. I dunno what I'm gonna do. I'ts just terrible! Say it aint so Joe, say it aint so!!!! What will we ever do? A Venezuelan who can't box in the major boxing markets and was gonna be in prison the rest of his life for murder. Boxing will never recover from this!!! Major blow to the sport!!!! I can't fathom it. Not just a major blow to the sport but to humanity itself!

Killing yourself after you've killed another person is the right way to go IMO. Don't waste taxpayer money just kill yourself and be done with it.

How can any body be sad for this guy. Maybe the situation DEFINETELY his wife...Just my 2 cents

(CNN) -- Venezuelan world lightweight boxing champion Edwin Valero committed "suicide" in his prison cell after being arrested for the murder of his wife, according to media reports.
The 28-year-old had confessed to stabbing his wife Jennifer Carolina Viera de Valero in a hotel in the city of Valencia on Sunday before taking his own life, police confirmed.
Valero was found in his cell hanged by his own clothes and though he showed some signs of life he later died, police chief Wilmer Flores Trosel told state television.
"A prisoner nearby heard noises inside the cell and told officials, who immediately went and found the boxer Valero hanging with his own clothes," he said.
Valero, nicknamed "The Inca", had recently gone into alcohol rehabilitation and was reportedly detained in March for mistreating his wife.
He had a distinctive tattoo on his chest of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, and defeated Mexican Antonio DeMarco in his most recent fight, in February this year.
He is listed as a champion in recess on the World Boxing Council's Web site, and boasted a record of 27 wins from 27 fights -- all his victories coming by way of knock out.
His representative, Hilmar Rojas, told reporters that Valero came out of a rehabilitation center a few days ago and was due to fly to Cuba for more treatment, until he had a car crash.
CNN has not yet been able to confirm Valero's death.

i'm sad for his wife, his children, all of the surviving family members, and way down the list, all boxing fans. it's just that this is a sports betting message board so you were gona get my sports opinion before anything else. of course the guy was a major league piece of shit but he could box his ass off. in due time, he was gona get his shot at pacquiao if he had stayed the course and in boxing circles that woulda been HUGE. valero's life was a HUGE waste of incredible boxing talent

We will never know his true level. He KOed every opponent, but very few were considered real contenders. Mosquera, Pitalua and DeMarco were the biggest names. His last fight showed great improvement, he was ready for the likes of Soto, Funeka, etc. Sad story.

"The President" Ike Ibeabuchi was an awesome heavyweight. He had 1 punch KO power, threw with unheard of volume for a heavyweight, had great stamina, a granite chin. Many viewed him as the fighter who would succeed Lennox Lewis as the next great heavyweight champ. He was born in extreme poverty in Nigeria and emigrated to the United States with nothing, making for a media-friendly backstory.

Ibeabuchi also suffered from schizophrenia. His medication took too much out of him physically to box, so he often went without taking his meds and would commit heinously violent acts as a result. Convinced that his ex-girlfriend was a demon working for Satan, Ibeabuchi kidnapped her son to "save" him. He got the son in his car, stepped on the gas and drove full speed into a concrete pillar, injuring the boy permanently. Instead of going to a mental health facility, Ibeabuchi was sent to prison for a mere two months. He continued boxing upon release, but shortly after dismantling future heavyweight champ Chris Byrd he savagely beat a prostitute who refused to accept payment by check. Ibeabuchi has been in prison ever since. He's been denied parole several times, but apparently he's doing well on his medication and has earned a college degree behind bars.

At least he didn't go Chris Benoit and take out the kids.
