#18This seems like a total waste of money. My only guesses as to why they signed him are either that they feel this is one of the only guys left Kimbo Slice can make money with or it's some half-assed attempt to "prove" that mma is somehow better than boxing.
Toney is old, out of shape, and washed up as a boxer. Now he's going to have to learn an entirely new fighting discipline at age 41. I don't think existing mma fans care about James Toney, and I don't suspect any boxing fans care at all about Toney's ability (or lackethereof) in an octagon. UFC just lost some money.Comment -

#21I dont mind seeing a couple of side show fights on a card. Having say GSP vs a top contender & then somewhere on that card Toney vs Kimbo or another side show type of fight isnt bad for the sport. Its entertainment, I think we all know they will never be the main event fighting against the best fighter.
Although I wouldnt mind seeing a Frank Mir or Cain beating up ToneyShut your mouth when you talk to Me!Comment -

#25Dana is so sensitive to turning UFC into a freakshow, and he signs James Toney? Huh? UFC has a great product and is finding it's stride, they don't need to sign clowns for any reason.Comment -

#26Toney is not much different than Kimbo. Dana White lets them in for no reason with no proof of skill in the octagon or in MMA. One dimensional fighters trying to make it in MMA. They sell the seats and thats all that matters to Dana at the end of the day. If Dana can make money from anything you will see it in the UFC no questions asked.Comment -

#27If you ask me, as a huge Toney fan, Dana White is making a big mistake here. It's a win-win for Toney, and boxing, really. He's old and out of shape and any loss will be immediately dismissed by boxing as a whole. On the other hand if he wins, it will really look bad for MMA. And I fully expect him to win. He is one of the most naturally gifted boxers in the world, if not THE most. Freddie Roach said this himself. His only downside is that he can never be bothered to train. He's been talking about this MMA experiment for a while and trust me, he has taken the time to learn at least rudimentary take-down defence, and some leg work. I'll be betting on Toney for sure, no matter who they put him in with.Comment -
