    Anderson Silva vs Demian Maia
MMAJunkie.com is reporting Demian Maia will replace Vitor Belfort to face Anderson Silva at UFC 112. What do you guys think of this match up?

I think this will be a quick finish for Silva. I don't see Maia taking him down and Anderson's striking is light years ahead.

don't need to see that. Maia is nowhere near ready to fight an elite striker and even if he was I still don't like his chances against Anderson.

Maia does have great takedowns. The fact that he got Sonnen down so easily was overlooked at the time, but with how dominant Sonnen has looked since, it looks more impressive. His trip takedowns are very impressive.

But, hard to see how he will get close enough to Silva to set him for that. Plus, he has to deal with the clinch. While his stand up looked better than ever last time out, Miller still hit him too much. Silva should destroy him standing.

Line should be atleast -550 imo.

No doubt. Would not surprise me to see it go more than -550.

Marquardt ko'd Maia in about 30 seconds if I remember correctly 2 fights ago... why not give the fight to Sonnen?

Maia has one chance. Flying triangle armbar.

I think Maia will surprise a lot of people in this fight; It's to early for predictions but I see this being competitive... I also see it being the boring-est fight on the card.
If Silva is anything more than -400 I may be inclined to go small on Maia; He can take Silva down he can submit him. It's a question of 'if' really he has the ability to do it if he survives the stand up.

Belfort is out till late 2010 or early 2011 so Sonnen will get the next shot. He woulda gotta it here I think if he wasn't injured. He's suspended and not allowed to train till mid-march which didnt give him any time to prepare.

good on Maia on taking the fight, he really wasn't hurt at all vs Miller. It was basically like a day of training, now just has to gameplan for Silva nd make sure he peaks at the right time

Vitor Belfort injured his shoulder, and has been taken of the ufc 112 fight card, and the ufc got Demian Maia to replace him.Should be a super easy fight for Anderson.

This will be a good fight for Anderson, I think he'll display the skill people want to see out of him. I'd like to see him come out and finish him quick.

despite losing, i would rather have seen Marquardt get another shot at Silva before Maia. It would be better for the fans to give Maia 2 or 3 more fights to improve his standup, cause if he does he would be an absolute threat towards Silva's belt.

I don't really think Maia having better stand up will play a huge factor. Maia's best chance is winning on the ground.

No love for Maia, Does anyone remember the Travis Lutter fight? Travis Lutter showed up out of shape and dehydrated took Silva down at will, passed Silvas gaurd got into full mount pounded Silva then for reasons unknown rolled for the worlds ugliest arm bar and ended up getting triangled in second round.
Well, Travis Lutter's ground game when he's in shape and hydrated isn't on the same planent as Maia's, Maia has better take downs as well, This is only an easy fight for Anderson if Maia comes in with the stupidist stratagy ever and trys to strike with Silva.
Anderson's two biggest weaknesses are takedown D and submission D...
With that said Anderson should win, but this is by no means a lock...

Nate Marquardt has to be kicking himself. If he would have handled Chael and came out healthly, it might be him instead of Maia.

yea I bet the UFC would have stepped up and paid what he was asking if they could have seen into the future.

I dont think it will be easy by any means, but Maia seems to take people down with trips and throws. I just think it is going to be hard to close the distance on Silva without getting hurt on feet. I am a big Maia fan though and respect his game.
