Dern always has a chance when the fight gets grounded. Only problem is she's not a great wrestler and can't for the life of her execute a double or single leg take down when needed.

Classic striker vs submission queen match up. Striker won tonight. That's what I bet on.

Mackenzie Dern fought 4 months after giving birth and lost to Amanda Ribas.

Nina Ansaroff fought 6 months after giving birth and lost to Mackenzie Dern.

Nina Ansaroff came back too soon (imo) after having her baby and hadn't fully recovered when Dern fought her.


#2 Mackenzie Dern is on the blackhouse strength and conditioning plan. Who in MMA used their program? A long list of people who developed good explosiveness, athleticism and speed. But not the best cardio.

#3 Mackenzie Dern's striking looked much improved when she fought Nina Ansaroff but still sloppy and unseasoned in comparison to absolute killers like Zhang, Namajunas, Valentina and Nunes. This became much more noticeable vs Rodriguez.

#4 Jason Parillo. Coming into the fight, Dern said she didn't have to work on her wrestling. Her striking and hands would open up taking the fight to the ground. Her entire gameplan revolved around outstriking someone who is a better striker than she is, to get it to the ground.

Maybe not the best plan? Eh. Whateverz. The fight went exactly how I thought it would. Almost makes up for the millions of times I've been wrong.
