I have a 1u play on Sumudaerji at +175. Smolka gets lit up on the feet way too often, and while he is tall he doesn't fight very long. Sumudaerji fights long and prioritizes distance. As long as he doesn't engage in any ground scrambles and walks away when Smolka is on his back, then he should carry the striking pretty handily. I don't worry too much about Smolka getting his own TDs because he usually relies on getting deep with bodylocks and playing some trips. I don't think Sumudaerji will allow him inside like that. However, this all goes to crap if Sumudaerji gasses out trying to finish Smolka, or just doesn't have the cardio to move all 3 rounds.

I also played Overeem 1u at +105. I think he is the vastly superior fighter in this matchup. If it weren't for his chin issues I would be going way bigger. Pavlovich has nothing but a powerful right hand and he's not even very good at setting it up for himself. He's exceptionally patient to the point of being tentative. He waits for the perfect counter, but can be potshot in the meantime by someone willing to stick and move. He also tends to pick on guys that have shorter reach than him, while Overeem has an 80" reach. I think all of his skill and savvy should make this fight an easy one for Overeem AS LONG as he can avoid the one big shot. I feel pretty good that he can because it's not like he has to avoid multiple setups (hooks, overhands, straights) he literally just has to avoid Pav's counter right hand and he will be fine. And that's just when they're boxing at range. Kicks, clinch, grappling I think all go to Overeem handily. I'm debating a larger play on Overeem but put my 1u down now. It's KO or bust for Pav and IMO he's not that great at setting himself up for that KO.

Pingyuan Liu (-250) over Martin Day - $500 us american dollar units, to pay back 700
Li Jiangliang (-155) over David Zawada - $155 to give 255
Kevin Holland (-450) over John Phillips - $150 to give $183.33
                            FRANCIS +180 $20 to win $36

oh and down the line a few weeks 12/8 UFC 231, Valentina (-310) over Joanna. I only have this in parlays right now, but will be putting min. 1K$ on this. I just can't really see Joanna getting the W here. The juice is heavy, and the books will take plenty of Joanna action at +200 or better. I'll balance the book out a bit and ride with the house and Shevchenko.

since last week, I've been laying down action, LEGALLY, in CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA.
Grantville, PA, Hollywood Casino at the Penn National Race Course (horsies) now has a William Hill affiliated Sportsbook, open 7 days a week open 11 AM til Midnight.
It is a really nice set-up they have created, easy access to the book, tons of TV's, friendly and helpful staff, pretty good amount of wagering options, almost all of what I can wager on the William Hill website. It is comparable in operation to a Vegas casino's book. Probably as many or more TV's, but a lower ceiling than most all Vegas books. I haven't been to NJ to see what digs they have set up in AC or at the Meadowlands, but the offering here in central PA is pretty darn nice and I am so so terribly happy that is has arrived! An hour drive for me but well worth it. Poker room isn't too bad either. And plenty of slots and table games if you choose to donate to the house in those fashions.

                            Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Chael Sonnen makes his prediction on how Curtis Blaydes vs Francis Egannou will play out...

Frrancis Ngannou faces UFC Heavyweight Curtis Blaydes. A match he won before. But if Ngannou loses, that will be three losses in a row. Will he be cut if he comes up short? Chael Sonnen weighs in on his You're Welcome podcast.

Its silly to make a clip about Ngannou's uppercut.

Ngannou's punching power, speed and accuracy is based around his athleticism. He's a freak athlete.

He isn't successful cuz he mastered the fundamental mechanics of how to counter or deliver a punch correctly.

Oh wait. I see. You're promoting them because you think they're gay and also have eurotophobia. Nevermind. Carry on.

Nvm. Looks like lots of sites typoed what should be 136 for Martin Day.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. Was there some miscommunication where he cut to 125 for a 135 fight? or typeo?

Not a big fan of this card from a picks or betting perspective. Very few dogs that I find worth betting (only Sumudaerji and Overeem), but all the favs are so juiced that I don't even wanna put them in parlays.

                                                    MMA MANIA PRELIMS -

185 lbs.: John Phillips vs. Kevin Holland
John Phillips (21-7) — who had two scheduled UFC debuts scrapped in 2017 — finally stepped foot in the Octagon in March, facing Charles Byrd in London. The SBG representative’s grappling failed him, however, allowing Byrd to choke him out in less than four minutes.
Eighteen of the 21 stoppage wins for “The White Mike Tyson” have come by form of knockout.
Kevin Holland (13-4) racked up four consecutive victories, including a decision over Will Santiago on the Contender Series, to earn a spot in the Octagon this year. His debut saw him face knockout artist Thiago Santos, who failed to put away Holland, but still took home a wide decision victory.
He stands four inches taller than Phillips at 6’3.”
Having power is a plus, obviously, but the nasty side effect is that fighters fall in love with it and fall behind in their technical development. Phillips has been in this sport for 13 years and has nothing to show for it besides power; his boxing is poor and his takedown defense is nonexistent.
The pool of UFC Middleweight talent he can beat is quite small. It doesn’t include Holland.
“Trailblazer” has half a foot of reach on Phillips, is the better wrestler, and is more than happy to sit at range plunking kicks off the Welshman’s guard while the latter plods after him. He’s never been stopped with strikes, either, and just survived three rounds against one of the scariest men in the sport. Expect him to cruise here, landing kicks until Phillips gets overeager, taken down, and submitted in short order.
                                                    Prediction: Holland via first-round submission

                                                    170 lbs.:
                                                    Li Jingliang vs. David Zawada
Li Jingliang (15-5) is 5-1 since opening his Octagon career 2-2, earning two Fights of the Night and one Performance of the Night along the way. After a grueling loss to Jake Matthews in February, Li got back in the win column with a dominant decision over Japanese knockout artist Daichi Abe.
“The Leech” will give up three inches of reach to Zawada.
David Zawada (16-4) — a standout in Poland’s venerable KSW promotion — joined UFC on short notice this July against Danny Roberts. Despite being a moderate underdog, Zawada gave “Hot Chocolate” everything he could handle, walking away with “Fight of the Night” in a split decision defeat.
He steps in for the injured Elizeu Zaleski on short notice.
What Li pulled against Matthews was pretty inexcusable, but he’s still one of the most consistently entertaining fighters the promotion has to offer. His power, wrestling and reckless abandon make him a tough out for anyone at 170 pounds.
                                                    Zawada included.
Zawada can strike and his sneaky takedown game is a threat, but he’s been hurt badly on the feet in the past, and Li’s punches demand extreme durability. Li’s physical strength also limits the effectiveness of Zawada’s sneaky takedown game, ensuring they spend enough time on the feet for one of “The Leech’s” bombs to land clean. Li clips him early in the second round.
Prediction: Li via second-round technical knockout

                                                    135 lbs.:
                                                    Liu Pingyuan vs. Martin Day
Liu Pingyuan (12-5) got called up to the UFC in the midst of a seven-fight winning streak, and though his initial debut against Bharat Khandare fell through, he got the chance to show his stuff in July against Damian Stasiak. He had some trouble with “Webster’s” grappling early on, but took over with his striking to win the net two rounds.
Five of his nine stoppage wins have come by submission.
Martin Day (9-2) came up short in his “Contender Series” bid, losing a decision to The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 24 alumnus Jaime Alvarez last year. “The Spartan” has since picked up a trio of victories, most recently knocking out Brady Huang to win the URCC Bantamweight title.
He is one inch taller than Liu, but will give up an inch of reach.
Day’s a lot of fun to watch, a long-distance striker with fancy kicks and some heavy straight punches. When given free rein to potshot at range, he’s a hassle. When he isn’t, well, things get dicey. Though he’s got a good eye for counter hooks, Alvarez repeatedly found his way inside to land punches and takedowns.
Liu looks capable of doing the same. The Chinese youngster is aggressive, durable and has some sneaky grappling of his own with which to disrupt Day’s rhythm. Expect an entertaining back-and-forth battle that sees Liu mix his boxing and takedowns to secure the win.
                                                    Prediction: Liu via unanimous decision

                                                    135 lbs.:
                                                    Louis Smolka vs. Sumudaerji
Louis Smolka (14-5)put together a four-fight win streak with two bonus-winning stoppages to earn a spot in UFC’s Flyweight rankings, only to exit the promotion after losing four straight. “Da Last Samurai” went on to fight three times in 2018, racking up three stoppage wins to earn another shot in the Octagon.
His 11 stoppage wins include six submissions.
The single-monikered Sumudaerji (8-1), fighting out of the same Enbo Gedou camp that gave us Song Yadong and Liu Pingyuan, has yet to go the distance as a professional, ending all but three fights within three rounds. Depending on whether you trust Sherdog or Tapology more, he has already fought three or five times in 2018.
This fight came together on less than two weeks notice.
From what I’ve seen of Sumudaerji, he’s a Karate-style southpaw whose main weapons are fancy kicks from a wide, low stance and a powerful straight left that does the real damage. He’s plenty entertaining and his finishing skills are legit, but his three submission losses and lack of experience against top competition aren’t good signs against a grappler of Smolka’s caliber.
Smolka’s always been a terrific scrambler and submission artist held back by a lack of physicality and offensive wrestling. Hopefully, he’ll use the extra 10 pounds to pack on some beef, but even if he hasn’t, he’s durable enough to survive Sumudaerji’s left hand and drag him south for a quick finish.
                                                    Prediction: Smolka via first-round submission

205 lbs.: Rashad Coulter vs. Hu Yaozong
Rashad Coulter (8-4) has yet to taste victory in the Octagon, but he’s certainly given fans their money’s worth during his three-fight UFC tenure. After securing “Fight of the Night” in his madcap debut against Chase Sherman, “Daywalker” succumbed to a flying knee from Tai Tuivasa and started strong against Chris de la Rocha before falling victim to the latter’s ground-and-pound.
All eight of his wins have come by knockout, six of them in the first round.
Hu Yaozong (3-1) became the first Chinese Heavyweight to step foot in the Octagon when he debuted against Cyril Asker last year. Unfortunately, “Bad Boy” had no answers for the Frenchman’s grappling and tapped to a rear-naked choke in the second round.
He is four inches taller than Coulter, but will give up as many inches of reach.
All things considered, Coulter really isn’t all that bad a fighter. He’s got quick hands for a Heavyweight, heart for days, and a chin that it took a 265-pound flying Aussie to crack. His cardio just isn’t there, unfortunately.
Hopefully, dropping a couple dozen pounds will pay dividends in that area.
Hu is coming off a loss to arguably the worst Heavyweight on the roster in Asker and has a fraction of Coulter’s experience. Even if “Daywalker” shows no improvement, he should be fine as long as he makes it to the scales without issue. Coulter overwhelms him with speed and power en route to finally entering the UFC win column.
Prediction: Coulter via first-round technical knockout

                                                    115 lbs.:
                                                    Jessica Aguilar vs. Zhang Weili
Once the queen of the Strawweight division, Jessica Aguilar (20-6) has enjoyed mixed success in UFC, going 1-2. After consecutive losses to Cláudia Gadelha and Cortney Casey, “Jag” entered the win column in July with a decision over fellow veteran Jodie Esquibel.
She had won 10 straight before joining the Octagon, including two wins over arguable Strawweight G.O.A.T. Megumi Fujii.
Zhang Weili (17-1) established herself as China’s top fighter with 16 consecutive victories, all but one of them inside of two rounds. In her Octagon debut, she took on durable veteran Danielle Taylor and took home a unanimous decision.
She has knocked out nine opponents and submitted another six.
Now this is a crossroads fight. There was a time when Aguilar was the best in the world, while Zhang has been on a rampage since losing her debut. In addition, “Jag” will be the best wrestler Zhang’s faced to date, meaning there’s certainly a possibility that she plays spoiler.
                                                    Not a big one, unfortunately.
Zhang figures to have a considerable edge in striking and has proven herself able to do major damage on the inside, meaning every shot Aguilar takes will be fraught with danger. Worse, Aguilar’s fight IQ has been spotty during her Octagon tenure and Zhang hits too hard to permit mistakes. Zhang makes it 2-0 in UFC, outsriking Aguilar at range with her kicks and landing hard on the inside when the latter tries to force the takedown.
                                                    Prediction: Zhang via unanimous decision

                                                    125 lbs.:
                                                    ** Yanan vs. Lauren Mueller
** Yanan (8-2) rebounded from a loss to Yana Kunitskaya with two consecutive victories before making her Octagon debut. She took on grappling specialist Gina Mazany, who defeated her by unanimous decision and prompted her to drop to 125 pounds.
This will be her first fight in 355 days.
Just four fights into her professional career, Mueller defeated Kelly McGill-Velasco on “Contender Series” to earn Dana White’s attention. She debuted eight months later against The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) veteran Shana Dobson, taking home a competitive decision in Glendale.
She will give up three inches of height to “Mulan.”
** should have an easier time of things at 125 pounds, but that’s not enough to offset her non-existent takedown defense. Gina Mazany took her down five times, and opponents who saw that fight or the Kunitskaya stomping are going to zero in on that weakness without fail.
Mueller has the tools to do that.
“Princess” can keep up with ** in a slugging match and has the option of bringing it south any time things get hairy. She grinds her way to a second consecutive UFC victory.
                                                    Prediction: Mueller via unanimous decision

                                                    170 lbs.: Song Kenan vs.
                                                    Alex Morono
Song Kenan started his Octagon career strong with a 15-second pasting of Bobby Nash in his Octagon debut, defying 2.5-1 odds to do so. He returned to action seven months later, stopping TUF: “Latin America” veteran Hector Aldana with punches late in the second round.
He has knocked out and submitted six opponents apiece.
Alex Morono (14-5) went unbeaten in his first three Octagon appearances, upsetting Kyle Noke and James Moontasri before going to a “No Contest” against Niko Price. He has since gone 1-2, a guillotine finish of Josh Burkman sandwiched between decision losses to Keita Nakamura and Jordan Mein.
“The Great White” is one inch shorter than Song, but will have an inch of reach on him.
Morono has definitely come up big when I wrote him off, but if you count the Price knockout and fix the judging against Noke and he’s essentially 2-4 in the Octagon. Though his grappling is legit, his lack of wrestling and ungainly striking relegate him to the role of “action fighter.”
Song might be in the same category, admittedly, but he’s the sharper kickboxer of the two and is durable enough to tank Morono’s swings. The real question is how he deals with Morono’s jiu-jitsu, as his takedown defense has been a little shaky. Morono’s more than happy to slug it out, though, and this likely comes back to bit him as Song outbrawls him for a decision.
                                                    Prediction: Song via unanimous decision

I would like to think the Coulter under 1.5 is a gift from the non existing heavens.

Nevermind. Carry on.

Both of those guys train out of team alpha male.

Remember the time a guy from team alpha male was fighting on dana white's contender. He got his opponents back standing. Dana Castillo yells from the corner something like... "get the body triangle and squeeze the shit ouf of him".

I post & say "that's a bad move, he'll gas his legs out". (it might take some effort but the post has to still be there and can be dug up).

Anyways, long story short. If I don't know shit about fighting how come I knew body triangle standing is a bad move sometimes, and one of team alpha male's coaches didn't seem to know that?

Ngannou's counter is ok--it works for Ngannou because he has the athleticism, precision, speed and power to make it work. But for a lot of people who lack those qualities, that counter probably wouldn't be useful for them its not material worth covering for most.

The main thing those two kids are missing is.............. Ngannou's uppercut works because it comes from a low angle below someone's line of sight. I think Ngannou throws it with his hand down low, similar to how Derek Brunson finished Lyoto Machida with a punch that came from below his line of sight.

If I said this to them, they wouldn't have a good retort & if they were cool they might even thank me for teaching them something.
