Ok,
Well I'm new to posting on the forum. Been lurking for quite some time and I must admit I love reading the picks posted here by the likes of Bread, Hoff, etc.
So anyway, I'm gunna try and do some contributing (even if my picks end up being fade worthy!)
Before I start, I must send out some hate to Nick Thompson last night who buried me on my 1u parlay to win 7u. Hallman, Kaufman, and Gurgel all give it 500% and u tap to strikes??? I don't care if they were to the back of your head or straight to the nuts, don't tap to strikes u pussy!
Ok now that I've vented, here are my picks:
Nate Diaz vs Joe "Daddy":
Honestly, Stevenson has been so unimpressive over the past year. I haven't seen him evolve at all. Still has the same gameplan that he followed back when he was on TUF. And against Nate Diaz, that just isnt gunna work. If this fight stays standing, mean muggin Nate will go into terminator-style jab mode perfected by his brother. If it goes to the ground and Joe ends up on top, he'll get sloppy and get triangled. I just dont see him winning at any instance in this fight. Only thing that worries me a bit is that he has been training at Greg Jackson's camp and he might have actually come up with something useful that Joe Daddy could follow. However, I think once the fight gets going, Joe will fall into his same style as always and get submitted in the 2nd.
My Pick is Nate Diaz -2.5 points handicap on 5Dimes (-105) for 1.5u.
If you guys havent seen this before, it totals the cumulative score at the end of the fight. If the fight doesn't go the distance, whoever wins the fight wins. So for exampe, if the scores are 29-28. 29-28, 29-28 for Diaz, his points handicap is -3. So for the most part, if Diaz wins inside the distance or if he wins a unanimous decision, I win. Just a nice way to lower the vig for the fight. Now bring on the split decision win for the loss!
Edgar Garcia vs Brad Blackburn:
Edgar really impressed me in his last fight against Miura at WEC 38. He's undefeated at 7-0 with 5 KOs. He should have the size advantage as he has fought at 185 before, now coming down to 170. Main worry for me is his gas tank as he's only had one fight go the distance. Blackburn is a veteran fighter who has some notable wins over the likes of Jay Hieron and recently Ryo Chonan (which I won some money off of!). He's been on a tear as of late and hasn't lost in over 2 years. However, I'm going to take my chances with the more explosive fighter making his UFC debut (usually not a good thing
).
My Pick is Edgar Garcia (+105) for 1u.
Frank Lester vs. Nick Osipzak
Really haven't seen much of either fighter other than what was on the show. I don't usually like to bet on these fights because of all the unknowns and variables that the show brings, but I'm a degenerate and I see some value here albeit at a big price. Truthfully all that Lester showed me on the show is that he can take a pretty big beating and still keep coming forward. Unless hes improved his cardio, foot movement, and sloppy striking since the show, I don't see him winning this fight. Obviously he has some heavy hands so he can land a big shot and drop the skinny brit pretty fast but I'll take my chances. Nick was pretty impressive on the show and hes one of the only real prospects that I see having a chance to stick around in the UFC. He had DeMarques rocked multiple times, but just couldnt get the finish. I see him getting it here with a TKO stoppage in the 2nd.
My Pick is Nick Osipzak (-210) for 1u.
Final Pick is a little parlay action. I think Diego will outwrestle Guida and he has many more tools to put the Geico Caveman away. Guida's only chance is to try and glue himself to Diego for the whole fight like a human seatbelt (ala his fight vs Nate Diaz which he still barely won - psssst I think he lost that fight!). I don't like laying the big price tag so I am parlaying Dirty Sanchez with Diaz (reasons for Diaz stated earlier!).
My Pick is Diego Sanchez (-295) and Nate Diaz (-151) Parlay paying +120 for 1u.
