I know chicken Jones was gonna somehow pull out of this fight against DC. It was the smartest but cowardly move for him to retain the title for a bit longer. As well as Gus performed in his loss, DC still deserves the #1 contender and be next...so Jones can't continue to keep running.

So Jones will only defend his title once in 2014, which is sort of his fault. The UFC wanted him to fight Teixeira in February but he said he didn't want to fight that soon. After asking Jones to fight in March and getting another no, the two parties settled on April. After that fight went down, the UFC wanted him to fight Gustafsson on August 30th but he said that was too soon and so they scheduled the fight a month later. If he hadn't drawn out his schedule so much maybe he would have already gotten his second fight of the year in and perhaps 176 wouldn't have been cancelled.

Not in the slightest. Without that fight (the shot should have gone to Makovsky, though), they'd have no title fight for either 177 or 178, and would likely have had to scrap one of them (lol), making two events in three (or even two in a row) that have been cancelled.

They had to book that fight, and it was a really responsible thing to do, even if they gave the shot to the wrong guy. They'd be focked now without Chris Crassus bro. 2014 is one of the worst years MMA has seen in a while; I'm sort of hoping that someone will get injured in one of the bantamweight/flyweight title fights, just to see the reactions.

Anyone know what 5Dimes is waiting for in re-releasing the line? It was Jones -165 / Cormier +145 the day the fight got cancelled. I am wondering why they don't just repost the line and switch the date to Jan. 3.
