He beat him in all areas until they got into a wild exchange and he got dropped. Credit Rickel's chin, many of those early shots would have dropped guys. But Awad was better in basically every area until then. Rickels was just as tired until that last flury, I didn't see Awad any more tired than he was. Awad, fairly tired in the 2nd managed to sweep Rickels and then proceed to control him. I was impressed more with Awad after that fight more than when I said I liked him from the start. People said he was a glorified TKO/KO Prop. He out-grappled Rickels easily.

Yea, and Awad a guy people said only had KO power swept him, took him down when he wanted, and stayed in guard when he wanted. And in my opinion Awad outstruck him until the end as well. I had him doing better than Rickels in all areas. I thought he had won both rounds, although the 2nd was closer than the first. I had them looking to have about the same gas left before they both started swinging.

If you argue that he should have been saved by the bell, you can't simultaneously argue that he won the round through virtue of being on top. He got blasted, dropped hard, and the fight would have been over had the bell not sounded. I can't imagine giving that round to Awad, just because he had ineffective top position.

To sum it up and the whole reason we are talking about this is because you said "why did people like Awad?" Seemed like he was the better fighter for most all of the fight...and he could be had at decent dog odds. Doesn't seem like the proper thing to ask after almost a 2 to 1 favorite had to have a wild KO comeback.
