Took the fight on one week notice because previous fighter got injured. Takes way longer then a week to train for a fight. HE was fighting a really fast striker and he tried to get the ko. He even pumped up the crowd and finished even though he was all bloody. He tried to take him down but his opponent has really good take down defense. HE was 33-3 record for a reason.

to me it just comes down to one thing. Trying ones best. I hardly think it was his best effort to eat jabs that were rearranging his face when anything else would have been a more valiant attempt to get the win. I am not saying he had the skill set to legitimately win. I am not even saying he belonged in the cage with his opponent. All I am saying is he took the path that left him no chance of winning. You can look at it like he did his best if you want to, but there are a lot of other things you can try besides the volunteer punching bag strategy.

Refering to Peralta? I think it was a combination of a number of things. Firstly it was clearly one of those situations where fighting in front of home crowd seemed to give the fighter (in this case Akira) a big boost. Also he trains full time and has been for a long time, and has been training with Edgar, while Peralta is still working full-time and barely getting in a couple hours a day of training. Also, I think that KO of Young made Peralta overly confident in his one-punch KO ability and perhaps led to him being too passive and just head-hunting.
