Time to get going in the right direction. Sheesh. Going to keep it at one play per day to try and start making a dent into the deficit. Will add my thoughts in addition to my actual play. I think Darvish against Oakland tonight @ 6.5 is also a pretty good play. Yu ranks 4th in K-rate for pitchers and Oakland is the 4th most K-prone lineup in the league.

May 16th: Nationals P Gio Gonzalez Total Ks Over 6 [-125]
GG ranks as the top dog in K-rate @ 10.81 per 9 IP. He has K-ed at least six in all seven starts this year. At home, he has whiffed 22 in 21 IP. He faces the Pirates who rank 8th highest in K-rate.

No worries with Gio as he struck out 10. Yu also cashed. Will continue to post my pick and others that fit into the criteria even if I don't play them on a specific day. Hopefully, we can roll in the right direction for the rest of the week.

        May 17th: Angels P C.J. Wilson Total Ks Over 5.5 [-105]
Wilson ranks 30th in K-rate @ 8.37 Ks per 9 IP. At home this season, Wilson has 21 Ks in 21.1 IP with two of his three starts seeing him whiff eight batters or more. The White Sox are hitting .192 against lefties and rank as the 3rd most strikeout prone team in MLB. His last start against Texas was his only one not to see him go at least 6 IP.

Too many walks from CJ. Be lucky if he gets through the 6th. Already 57 pitches in the 3rd. 2 Ks, but gonna take a minor miracle to get close to 6.

Looking at Samardzija in the matinee today. #11 K-rate pitcher vs. #5 K-rate lineup. Anything at six or less is a play on the over for me. Waiting for the # to be set if they set one. Samardzija has six Ks or more in four straight starts and five of seven overall. 24 Ks in 22.1 IP @ Wrigley Field.

May 18th: Tigers P Justin Verlander Total Ks Over 7 [-110]
Verlander ranks 23rd in K-rate @ 8.64 per 9 IP. He has whiffed at least seven in six of his eight starts and has met this number or exceeded it in all four starts at Comerica Park. He gets Pittsburgh who ranks 8th in K-rate for lineups. Verlander has gone at least 7 IP in five starts this season. If he gets that deep here, I like his chances of meeting or exceeding the #.

May 20th: Tigers P Max Scherzer Total Ks Over 5.5 [-125]
Scherzer comes in off a poor performance last time out against the White Sox. At home, his K rate has been solid with 18 Ks in 14.1 IP. For the season, Scherzer rates 3rd in K-rate at 10.37 per 9 IP. He draws Pittsburgh which ranks 7th in K-rate for MLB lineups. With the exception of his last start against Chicago, Scherzer has been able to take advantage of the teams with high K rates.

Greinke rates 9th in K-rate at 9.54 Ks per 9 IP. Twins are the 2nd toughest to K, so a test here. Still, Greinke has set down 34 batters via K in 28 IP @ Miller Park. He's whiffed at least seven in those four starts.

May 20th: Dodgers P Chad Billingsley Total Ks Under 5 [-115]
Billingsley has only whiffed more than five batters twice in eight starts this season and just once in his last seven. St.Louis is right in the middle of the pack @ 12th in K-rate for lineups and Kershaw, who sports a better K-rate, only struck out four in a dominant performance last night.

May 21st: Nationals P Gio Gonzalez Total Ks Over 6 [-120]
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Gio ranks 2nd in K-rate @ 11.1 Ks per 9 IP. He has whiffed at least six in all eight starts and topped seven in seven of those, including whiffing seven Phillies in a 7 IP performance earlier this month. Philadelphia ranks as one of the Top 6 toughest teams to K, so that's already good that Gonzalez was able to continue his K mastery against them. He has 28 Ks in 20.2 IP on the road this season.

May 21st: Rangers P Yu Darvish Total Ks Over 6.5 [-115]
Yu ranks 4th in K-rate and gets Seattle who currently sits 11th in K-rate among MLB lineups. Darvish opened his MLB career against Seattle with 5 Ks in 5.2 IP and since then has ripped off seven or more Ks in five straight. He's been getting deeper into most games now with 6 IP or better in five of his last six starts. On the road, he has 29 Ks in 25 IP with 20 of those over his last two starts.

Yu was wild as hell. Six walks. 4 IP. Had 5Ks and probably would have gotten a ton if his control was better and allowed him deeper in the game, but thems the breaks.

May 22nd: Pirates P James McDonald Total Ks Over 5.5 [-130]If there is a bigger surprise name on the top list of K-rate pitchers than James McDonald, I don't know who it is. This guy has elevated himself up to 19th in K-rate with 8.94 Ks per 9 IP. He has whiffed seven or better in five straight starts, so it appears that it is no fluke. This should be a good spot as well with the 5th rated K-lineup in the Mets as the opposition today. McDonald has gone at least 6 IP in five of eight starts and has rolled up 23 Ks in his last 21.1 IP @ PNC Park.

Waiting for the line to be set, but ready to rock on this one. Samardzija ranks 14th in K-rate at 9.00 per 9 IP. He gets the Padres who rank tied as the most strikeout prone team in the majors. Samardzija had a streak of five straight games with 6 Ks or better broken up in his last start. At Wrigley, he has 32 Ks in 29.1 IP over four starts. Likely looking at a 5.5 total here. I think anything six or less is grounds for an over seeing as Samardzija has six or more Ks in all four home starts.

Sanchez disappoints again. Guy seems either to pile up an insane K amount in a game of mediocre at-best. Thing maybe need to be careful with this guy due to the inconsistency.

May 30th: Cubs P Ryan Dempster Total Ks Over 6 [-105]
Dempster ranks just outside the Top 40 in K-rate at 8.23 per 9 IP. He gets one of the top K-rate lineups today in San Diego. The Padres have fluctuated around the top spot and currently rank 2nd most strikeout prone in the majors. Dempster has had at least 6 Ks in five of eight starts this season. Last year, even though he was beat up in his lone start vs. SD, he still whiffed 7 in 5.2 IP. The Padres have been striking out with ease lately with four of the last five starters going against them, piling up at least 7 Ks. I think if Dempster can go 6-7, preferably 7 or more - this should at least push.

Dempster terrible today. Be lucky to get through 5.

F-ing blow me yesterday. Gio has 5 Ks and gets booted in the 5th for some reason after only 66 pitches. He wasn't pitching great, but was like one out from getting out of trouble. Manager yanks him and back in the wrong direction on this project.

Garza ranks 30th in K-rate @ 8.34 Ks per 9 IP. He gets Milwaukee who ranks as the 6th most strikeout prone lineup. Garza has faced the Brewers twice in 2012, once striking out just three in five innings, the other whiffing nine in 8.2 IP. On the road, he has 34 Ks this season in 31 IP and he has whiffed at least five in seven of his ten starts. If he goes six, this should have a shot.
