#2A playoff game will only be held if one of the teams involved in the tiebreaker could be eliminated without maiking the playoffs. So, they will not have a playoff game if the mets and phils are tied and milwaukee is eliminated -- they will use a tiebreaker (h2h i believe) and name one the div winner, the other the WC.Comment -

#3In that three-way tie scenario, whoever won the season series between the Mets and Phillies would be deemed the division winner and the team that lost the season series would face Milwaukee in a one-game playoff for the wild card.
I think.Comment -

#7NL EAST/WILD CARD THREE-WAY TIE: If the Mets, Brewers and Phillies all finish with identical records, the Mets and Phillies would play a tiebreaker game for the NL East at Citizens Bank Park on Monday. The loser would then host the Brewers for the NL Wild Card.Comment -

#10Thanks VBOMBER.
So apparently, it only reverts to head-to-head season series tiebreaker if EXACTLY two teams from same division are tied, and NOT is two teams from same division are part of a multiple-team tie.Comment -

Head to head is only used when both teams are guaranteed a playoff spot. For example, in 2005, the Red Sox and Yankees finished with 95 wins I think. Since whoever finished second would have the wild card spot, they didn't do the one game playoff. The Yankees won the division and the Red Sox got the wild card on head to head record.Comment
