Looking real hard at the under 9 in this one. Campillo's been a real nice surprise within manager Bobby Cox's starting rotation, and he comes into this one red hot going 1-0 with a miniscule 1.15 ERA allowing 15 hits but just 2 earned runs with a K/BB ratio of 11/1 in 15.2 innings his L/3 starts. The total innings pitched looks low because he only managed to toss 1.2 innings against the Phillies before the rains came pouring down. He’s allowed more than 3 earned runs just once in his L/8 starts, and managed to go at least seven innings in 6 of his L/10.
The following are the final scores of his 7 road starts this season:
12-10 @ PHI – rain!!!
4-0 @ FLA
12-3 @ SD
0-3 @ LAD
0-2 @ LAA
2-3 @ CHC
8-1 @ MIL
4 of those 7 went under this number with a push and a pair of losses, but mystifying the Marlins, Angels, Cubs, and Brewers in their own ballpark is certainly impressive.
The Under’s been a cash cow when Atlanta’s been a visitor this year cashing in 38 of their 56 games to date; it’s also 20-6 ATS with a ‘total’ of 9 to 9.5.
The D’Backs Doug Davis got rocked his last time out, but that was kind of expected after he almost tossed a no-no in his previous start. The Braves have been struggling against lefties of late, and Davis has been solid against the Braves throughout his career posting a 1-0 record with a 2.42 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in four career starts. He shouldn’t have much of a problem limiting the Braves less formidable line-up. I know Chipper’s been activated for tonight, but I don’t expect him to start.
It all adds up to what looks to be a game dominated by the pitching…. at least I hope so. What says you??
