The Marlins finally solved the riddle that had been Jamie Moyer last night to pick up a win in the first of the three-game set. The victory allowed them to claw within 1.5-games of the Phillies for the top spot in the NL East. They also hold a 6-4 season-series advantage in '08.
That said; the Phillies look to be the best bet on the board for tonight’s slate with Kendrick squaring off against Sanchez in only his second start of the season. Don't get me wrong, Annibal's by no means a slouch evidenced by the fact that he tossed a no-no in just his 13th professional start against the D'Backs back in '06, but he's venturing into hostile waters tonight after the Marlins silenced the CBP crowd with their commanding victory last night.
Take a look at this and tell me if you think I'm on the right track here....
(9 1/3rd IP, 13 hits, 11 ER's, and a K/BB ratio of 6/9) If I were to tell you that those were Sanchez's combined splits in his two career starts at CBP, would you think laying -145 to beat him is too much??
I certainly don't, and the simple fact that Philly loves to compete with Kendrick on the mound makes this position that much more concrete. The Phills are 15-7 in Kendrick starts this year outscoring opponents 6-4. He had a pair of solid outings against Florida last year before getting bombed a couple weeks back in Miami.
This looks to be as good a spot as any with Sanchez pitching under the watchful eye of manager Gonzalez (pitch count wouldn’t shock me) knowing full well he’s struggled throughout his career in this venue; Kendrick looking for revenge, and the Phills looking to even the series up at a game apiece.
CBP will be rocking and I’m expecting the Phills to open up a can of you know what this evening.
That’s my take…..feel free to add your deuce cents….
