    Cinn at Pitt Friday
I am surprised at the low number for Cincinnati here. I got them at -106. They took the last two games on the road against a hot Milwaukee team, and go into Pittsburgh with the red-hot Edison Volquez set to start. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh just got swept at home by the Cubs.
    Isn't this pretty good value?

Its a trap. Volquez is not capable of pitching more than 6 innings. Volquez pitched for the rangers in 2007 and his longest stint in a game was 6 innings. How do you consider Volquez to be red hot after one game. If I was taking the reds in this game, I would be concerned with the Reds bullpen. This game will be decided by the bullpens and not the starters.

The Reds' bullpen has been excellent, tab. ERA 2.7. WHIP 1.0. No blown saves.

The Pirates' bullpen has also been pretty good, but not quite as good. ERA 5.5. WHIP 1.5. No blown saves.

Dusty Baker has some damn good pitching this season. Volquez has some stuff. Dunn and Encarnacion are waking up at the plate. I'm liking the chemistry of this team.

On the other hand, Maholm is not a bad pitcher at all. And the Reds' have not been hitting lefties worth a damn. That's actually my biggest concern.

But, still, I like the Reds in this at -106. I think they get this game.

Point taken Tab, though my take on Volquez was also considering his solid numbers this spring. The Reds just bring in more momentum at this point.

Let me add that the Reds have been terrible vs. lefties so far, and Maholm actually had good stuff in his first start. The five runs he allowed came on two swings, and in actuality he allowed just six baserunners in five innings with nine strikeouts.
