Guillen decides to keep vacation plans with family
CHICAGO -- Manager Ozzie Guillen will not be with the Chicago White Sox when the World Series champions visit the White House on Monday.

Chicago mayor Richard Daley, a longtime White Sox fan, said earlier in the week he was "disappointed" by Guillen's decision to skip the celebratory trip to Washington. However, Guillen is with his family on a vacation that was arranged before the date of the White House visit was set.

White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf told a radio station this week he also thinks Guillen should go but understands why he's not.

"Ozzie has been on a whirlwind this winter. He has done everything that everybody asked him to do," Reinsdorf said, pointing out that Guillen went to the Illinois Legislature and the Chicago City Council as part of his offseason appearances.

Guillen also became a U.S. citizen and traveled to his native Venezuela.

I know his trip was pre-planned, but this is a great honor. I'm really surprised he declined especially since he just became a US citizen.

I'm not really surprised to be honest. I'm surprised and sad that Frank Thomas will not be attending. Greatest Sox hitter ever.

Class-act Aaron Rowand will be there though.

That's good that A-Row is going. I'm gonna miss that kids defense.

Brian Anderson is actually supposed to be better all around. Although it'll be hard to imagine someone being as fearless and as much of a general in the outfielder as Rowand was.

Rowand used to have a cannon for an arm but after that dirt bike accident...arm went bye-bye. He'll deffinitly be missed though.

I am sure that Ozzie is skipping as a political protest more than anythng...you can't blame the guy for not wanting to be seen with a war criminal like George Bush.
