the lowest total in the history of baseball and it's 2 pretty much unknowns here.. i'll tell you this boys., i have seen stuff like this many times in my career and i can say this... the linesmakers here know something we surely don't know... there is something fishy about this.
You love baseball but are saying these two pitchers are "pretty much unknowns," now something there doesn't add up.
The total is 5.5 for a reason, the Dodgers have been struggling (understatement) to generate offense and couple that with a legit pitcher...it leads one to believe the Dodgers won't put up any more than 3 win or lose. And Kershaw has been flying under the radar simply because the Dodgers don't give him any run support. At 5 I like the over because I feel like 75% of the time I push. At 5.5 I have to play the under if I play it at all.

If you think it's 75% chance of a push at over 5 I suggest you run as fast as you can and find a bookie who gives you all right odds for exactly 5 runs scored in the game...

There were only 6 runs scored yesterday guys with two pitchers who are not close to being as good as today's starters and a lot of bullpen action for both sides, shit broxton even pitched an innings and there were only 6!
dodgers offense is fast asleep and they cant score batters in ( 9 hits for 2 runs yesterday, one of which being a bomb) and the padres are still waking from their slump
both teams face sharp pitchers today, as easy as it is for teams to score 2 or 3 cheap runs each, today there could quite easily only be 3 total runs scored

I don't think either team will score any runs....so at what point will they stop the game? I'm afraid of betting the under because I could be screwed if they cancel it after 20 innings or whatever.

I don't think I've ever seen this before either. It's basically a 5.5 total. I think I've seen 6, never 5.5. No way I could bet that under. 1/2 run down to the 5 is huge too. O5 at -130 or better looks really good.

I said this would happen when I heard last night that Latos was starting vs. Kershaw.
Two Aces in Petco and the Dodgers have been unable to hit recently.

Isn't there a way to appeal against such silly totals?

a rare 2* play from the ECJ blog
Today's Look: Dodgers at Padres
It was a long time coming for the San Diego Padres, but they finally managed to pick up their 77th win last night in the series opener against the LA Dodgers. A team that many had picked to bring up the rear in the NL West and that few gave any meaningful chance to play for a title at the start of the season, the Padres finally caught the breaks they had been accustomed to over the course of the season: a close call at first that allowed a run to score (super slow mo replay appears to show that the runner may in fact have been out) and later a ground ball to the infield that took a fortuitous bounce high into the air to allow another run to score.
Now that the losing streak is over, we can get back to the basics of discussing whether this teams has what it takes to hang onto their now tenuous lead in the division.
Mat Latos will take the mound tonight for the Padres, he of the 2.25 ERA and 13-5 record. He was scheduled to start last night's game, but a bout with the flu kept him out of action. According to Padre manager Bud Black, Latos was up all night puking and not able to rest -- just how ready will Latos be tonight? For a team batting just .179 with runners in scoring position, the Padres hope he will be at 100% becuse right now this is not a team that can afford to give up a lot of runs and hope to win a game. Every run is a battle these days, and Latos knows that very well. In his last 5 starts, Latos has amassed a 1.41 ERA yet has received a mere 3 runs of support in these games, resulting in 2 losses for the Padres. In 3 career starts against the Dodgers, Latos has and ERA of 3.21, but 5 runs of support from the other side of the ball has resulted in an 0-2 record for Latos against the Dodgers.
Clayton Kershaw will take the mound for the Dodgers, he of the 3.01 ERA and 11-9 record. Against the Padres, Kershaw has been even better, having beaten them twice and compiling an ERA of just 1.26 while striking out 14 in 14 innings. Much like Latos, Kershaw has been negatively impacted by his team's continued inability to score runs for him.
The Linesmaker hasn't overlooked how effective these two starters have been this season, or the fact that they receive such little run support. With a total of just 5 1/2, I'm playing the over. With runs expected to be at a premium, look for the offense to sacrifice any runner from first to second that they can. Both teams' bullpens have struggled recently. Let's not forget that Latos is still recovering from a bout with the flu, and even if he's throwing well, he may be limited. I wouldn't be surpised to see several one run innings in this game tonight as both teams will try to score whenever possible. All we need is a 4-2 final to get paid. I also like the Padres to come away with the win, but with the 10 game slide still so fresh, I'm going to hold off on playing them, but I do like the over quite a bit. I am gambling on Latos having some lingering effects of the stomach virus and the Padres doing whatever it takes to manufacture some runs.
The play: Padres/Dodgers O5 1/2 -110 for 2 units

the play is under, BUT you don't bet a total under at 5.5 no matter what. nobody that knows what they are doing will bet that under because one fukkk up and you are in the losing ticket window. it might very well be 1-0 but that doesn't matter. if yur guessin yur gamblin and this is too low to wager on.
