Having a big heart doesn't always mean you are a top player. I wouldn't say he is easily one of the best players, he is a good player but not one of the best. Could name at least 25 better players than him right now.

yes all those other players won at least 2 or 3 mvps so he is fourth maybe fifth if he is lucky

Pedroia reminds me of a young Jeter. Not the most talented guy physically but just gets it done. I know he hasn't done it as long so he is not on Jeter's level yet but he will be if he keeps it up. I live in Boston and hate the Yanks, but how can u not respect the hell out of Jeter. Thats how Dustin is. The only thing u can hate about him is if he doesn't play for ur team

The MVP voters are a contingent of morons -- antiquated pundits who haven't adjusted to or recognized the importance of Sabermetrics.

according to sabremetrics there is no such thing as clutch and a homer or rbi in the first is the same as one in the 9th. That is a joke.

everyone forgets that the year dustin pedroia won the mvp, carlos quentin got hurt, josh hamilton played for a nonplayoff contendor in texas(even tho in years past AROD won them for noncontendors), to even put a guy like pedroia a chance to win the MVP. Honestly, in my opinion, he wasnt even the MVP on his own team, but hey, the sportswriters always give the big market teams the leg up when it comes to voting these types of things.
pedroias line 118runs/17hrs/83rbis/20sbs/326avg/869ops in 653abs
youkilis line 91runs/29hrs/115rbis/3sbs/312avg/959ops in 538abs
most of the other numbers are similar except sbs, but when u look at the difference in OPS, its not even close in my opinion. Youkilis' OPS is a true MVP type calibers number. Both play great defense and both play hard all the time.
josh hamiltons line 98runs/32hrs/130rbis/9sbs/304avg/901ops
if u want to talk about someone whos way more talented, josh hamilton should have ALSO won the award over pedroia, but since he doesnt play for the yankees or red sox, the writers probably wrote him off.
carlos quentins line 96runs/36hrs/100rbis/7sbs/288avg/965ops in 480abs
even with him being short about 100+abs, Q still had numbers that i think trump pedroias and he also played a vital role in the White Sox success that year.
No doubt Pedroia has heart and hes a quality major leaguer in a shallow position, but his MVP award was a reminder how much of a popularity contests these baseball awards are at times.

Awesome day to have texas come up short 1 run on the RL for 470 and Pedroia singlehandedly down the Rockies for 150. sigh.

Yeah I can't believe there were people in this thread doubting the dude's abilities....monster game tonight. Definite franchise player that you build a team around.
