    Another Jim Joyce thread...LOL
What is not the question is the man obviously missed the call. I can't blame a man for being wrong. Nobody is perfect but what is troubling for me is why? And what I mean by that is this... This is a historic event and the last out of the game for me as an umpire that baserunner would have had to been decidely safe... It would have been unquestionable for me to call him safe... In that instance if the baserunner is even near the bag I am calling him out. Traditionally a tie goes to the runner but I am saying I would have called that guy out unless both of his feet had been on the chalk past the first base line.

The dude not only missed a no-hitter but a perfect freaking game. There are only like 19 perfect games in the history of baseball. True there has been a couple already this year but it is something that might not been seen for another few years or so.

It's just unfathomable to me he missed the call...Not the mistake or missed call because we all have screwed up in life but the fact that his mindset was not right for the situation is what is troubling for me.

20 perfect games actually.. but I completely agree. At a moment like this the close call should favor the team that is about to make history. Better to be wrong in favor of them.

Joyce could be on suicide watch

Yea, it is just beyond comprehension that his mindset was wrong. If it's a missed call in the 1st inning no biggie but the last out of a perfect game?

As umpire there it had to be a no doubter to call safe. A basic no call that everybody could tell he was safe to make that call. I don't get it. Why make it harder than it is?

I'm pretty sure you are supposed to look at the bag for when the hitter touches compared to when he hears the pop of the glove from catching the baseball. But there is a photo of Joyce looking at Cabrera's glove when he caught the ball where so he had to rely on his peripheral vision to see when the hitter reached the bag.I dunno how else to explain it he was clearly out.

What's also lost in all this is the terrific play made by the centerfielder in th 9th. Austin Jackson made an unbelievable play look routine. If you watched the beginning of the play Jackson was mis-posistioned shaded to right center and caught that ball almost full Willie Mays style in left centerfield...After that play you had to think it was destiny to get the perfect game because all perfect games have a defensive play or 2 that stands out.
