Report: Cardinals GM Jocketty won't return
ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The St. Louis Cardinals are parting ways with general manager Walt Jocketty, according to a report on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's web site on Wednesday.
According to the report, assistant general manager John Mozeliak has been named interim GM by Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. and is a candidate to succeed Jocketty on a full-time basis.
Jocketty had a contract through 2008. However, the Post-Dispatch is reporting that he apparently has reached terms on a financial settlement with the team.
Since Jocketty's hiring in in 1994, the Cardinals have captured six National League Central Division titles, one wild card berth, two NL pennants and won the World Series last season. More changes could be in store in St. Louis, as the contract of manager Tony La Russa expired at the end of the regular season.
La Russa, who has been rumored to be a candidate for Seattle Mariners' job, is currently weighing his options at home in California.
