Pujols could be done for season
The Cardinals will likely play there young talent anyways now that there season is over. So needless to say Larussa will sit him more even if he doesn't hang it up for the year.

Strained calf puts Pujols' season in jeopardy

ST. LOUIS -- Is Albert Pujols done for the season? It's possible.

Pujols has a strained left calf and could only pinch hit on Tuesday. He didn't play on Wednesday and is doubtful for the weekend, St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

"If I feel like I can play, I'm going to play," Pujols said, according to the Post-Dispatch. "But the way I feel right now, I would say no. But we'll see the next couple of days."

He refused to say he wouldn't play.

Pujols, the only player in baseball history to open his career with six straight years of a .300 batting average, 30 home runs, 100 RBIs and 100 runs. This season, he is hitting .321 with 31 home runs. But he only has 95 RBIs and has scored 93 runs.

"It's not as important as winning the games," Pujols said, according to the Post-Dispatch. "What is 100 RBIs going to do for me if we still lose 80 games and we're not going to be in the playoffs?

"I don't play for numbers. I play to accomplish some goals. And my goal is to win as many World Series as I can and to be in as many playoffs as I can."

There's no reason to risk further injury, so shutting him down would be the right move.
