I love how Dombrowski trades Granderson because the 5-year, $30 million is too pricey then goes on to sign Damon as a stopgap for $8 million.
Who (if any) were the other bidders?

Apparently Braves and Phils as a dark horse. This isn't bad. One year deal. I think the big thing with Granderson was they want room for all the big names next year.

Damon's a great addition to any lineup, and a great subtraction from any outfield at this point in his career. The guy can cover ground, but his arm might be the worst of any outfielder in professional baseball. It'll be interesting to see how the Tigers utilize him. I'm still surprised he got $8 million, but the guy can definitely hit.

I'm gonna miss him on the Yanks, but he and Scott Boras badly mishandled this whole thing. They were both too hardheaded to realize that re-signing w/ NYY was the best move. Oh well.

American League with the DH was a no-brainer.

Unless his arm is improved somehow and he can at least hit the cutoff man in short left field from the wall, he's an utter defensive liability. His bat, that's a different story, and if he's going to DH 100+ games in Detroit then it's a great signing for them.

His speed and experience on the bases should do them well also.

Granderson never improved the past few seasons, He was terrible against lefties. Tigers were just making room to hit the free agent market hard next season as they have a ton of money coming off the books. The Damon move was more of a move to keep the fans happy, plus Comerica park is a good park for him to hit in.
Granderson should have some good power numbers for the Yankees this season, but he will also strike out a ton.

Too bad Detroit can't somehow merge Damon and Guillen. Johnny D can't throw and Guillen's slower than me carrying a piano on my back. Of course, knowing the Tigers' luck if they did combine them they would wind up with a lame-arm, slow-as-shit leftfielder.

Yea, Damon really benifted from playing in Yankee Stadium. Not just at the plate but he was also able to hide some of his defensive problems. I think this is a big mistake unless he is DH most of the year as Willie said.
